I've talked a lot about the QL and it's role as a low back stabilizer and how it can be a contributor in low back pain. So let's throw out something new that you may not know about it.
It's actually a breathing muscle!πŸ˜₯
The QL pulls on your bottom rib to help depress the ribcage when you breathe out. And when we use our diaphragm, breathe into our belly, and expand the ribcage, it lets go. ⚠️Problem is, not many people, especially those who are stressed out by their low back aching, breathe that well.
😧They tend to use the chest and neck muscles to lift the ribs up, and the QL doesn't get that release because we don't expand the bottom of the ribacge. So if you want to get your QL to let go, integrate the breath with it. 10 to 15 slow and controlled belly breaths per side will help you out.✌❀
