Livin that Wine Country lifestyle

Oh, hey there, good-looking

Low and slow.

Sometimes, when you live across the street from the best park in the best city, it takes a little backyard touristing to remember all the things you forget you love

The charms of the "Pork Chop House" are many, though not necessarily gastronomic: the midcentury lunch counter, the flecks of dried parsley garnishing the cabbage, the manager, who knows exactly how to boss diners around. And yet each time I return I'm more conscious of the darker history behind its long existence: how the Chinese Exclusion Act created the need for "bachelor's cafes" like New Lun Ting by keeping so many San Franciscans from having families who lived with them. New Lun Ting is the last of its kind, and all the more precious for it.

These tiny, crisp salt-and-pepper fish--at a restaurant I almost passed over--were better than Nopa's. Oh I hear you: NUH-UNH YOU DID NOT SAY THAT. I did I did.

Squid with XO bagoong, melon gazpacho. One of 8? 9? courses at Francis and Dian Ang's lovely @pinoyheritage pop-up. Bonus: watching Francis's mom across the room, beaming her way through the entire dinner

Crossing the Bridge rice noodles, with a side of stir-fried boletes. Otherwise known as lunch no. 1. #efficiencymeanssacrifice

Made Mary Berry's cherry cake to thank some friends for a huge favor. #notasheetcake

Around and around we go

Well, this is as good as it gets in SF #thanksKarl

What I love about the library's Summer of Love and Haight exhibit (downstairs gallery) is that it isn't all psychedelic posters and flower children. Runaways, overdoses, the war--even a look at Reagan and conservative SF--it captures a richer , darker picture of the time than the media at the time, and the nostalgia now, prefers to paint.
