In the words of Nelson Mandela and recently President Obama ... 'No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.' I'm aware of the radio silence here on my feed after the events of the past weekend. Mostly because I am feeling an overwhelming since of despair and depression by what happened on Saturday, as well as what has been happening since the election. Posting pretty wedding pictures seemed a little empty and meaningless. Current events are giving me a better understanding of history and how things that you didn't think were possible and that would never happen again, can happen in an instant and have been there under the surface the whole time. I'm feeling very naive and white. I'm also really thinking about what I can do to be an ally, and uphold the values that I believe in like love and equality. One important thing that I can do in my world is to update my website to feature people of all races, religions, gender identities, and sexual orientation. The wedding industry and blogging world is saturated with white, straight, wealthy people. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Sending out love to the world.
