Back in 2011, I packed up my life and moved three-quarters of the way across the country to chase down my dream career in outdoor media. I had taken a full-time position as a television producer with the Eastmans', a small family-owned publishing company that churns out magazines, a television show, books, and all forms of digital media related to western big game hunting. I knew no one when I arrived in Powell, WY that summer, but the people that I worked alongside, including Adam Bender, who occupied the office next door to mine, quickly became my new circle of friends. Throughout the course of the next two years, Adam and I had each other's backs as we chased elk, bears, mule deer bucks, trout, and magazine/tv show deadlines for work...all while communicating largely in movie quotes. Needless to say, my heart sank when I learned that Adam would be leaving to take a job with Cabela's in his home state of Nebraska during the summer of 2013. Although we stayed in touch, we never had an opportunity to get together in person since he left WY back in 2013. That is, of course, until I found out we would both be in Louisville, KY for the ATA show this year. Adam took some time out his hectic schedule to sit down for lunch with me last Friday at the convention center, and when we stood up to part ways he extended his hand to drop a small object into mine. I immediately knew what was up, and all I could say was "you son of a bitch..." After all these years, I’m proud to say that I’m now officially part of the tribe...
