The Three Sisters.
This is a location I've been keen to shoot since I got to Australia. Although the formation is beautiful and unique, after shooting, I left very unsatisfied.
If you could see where I took this pictures you'd see I was in a crowd of 100 people or so, on a paved lookout. There might has well have been a line that said 'stand here for the perfect photo'. Within walking distance was a visitors center, public restrooms, even restaurants and bars.
It made me think a lot about what I'm truly seeking when I photograph landscapes, because clearly it's not only to get a good shot.
I believe a huge part of what makes a photo so rewarding for me is the work and creativity I put in to achieve it. This isn't something I've thought about before but I'm happy to know going forward. Without work, the reward doesn't seem deserved or impressive.
I'm happy the opportunity to take this photo now exists for people who couldn't figure it out otherwise, but it looks like I'll have to find another route from now on.
