Day 20 (and a note about days 13-19).
Logan and I had a wonderful chance to get away for a long weekend together, which meant I was not home to clean and sort. However, when we were picking up Hezekiah at my parents house, I decided to clean out an old dresser of mine while I was there.
While it is not pictured (I did not think to take a photo of the box and bag I filled), there were well over the 112 items that those days should have included. I filled a large box to donate and a garbage bag about two thirds full of trash.
My daily photo for today (the black and white one) shows four scrunchies - found buried in a drawer from junior high or earlier. These twenty-five year old relics are a reminder for me of the process of paring down. We can certainly look fondly back at what was, but if we try to hold on to everything forever, we leave ourselves little if any room for what comes, and we spread ourselves thin with the energy it takes to manage so much.
The same is true with our hearts - and Lent is such a beautiful time to remember these words - “If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.” -Matthew 16:25
