Last year over 1.3 million acres of forest burned in California. Depressing number isn’t it? My family and I have started to do something about it. I started an Instagram page called @dutytotheworld to show you what we are doing. There are 39 million residence in California. Imagine if every resident planted one tree. Imagine if local hikers threw eco-friendly seed bombs as they hiked. There are many resources to figure out what trees and seeds will be best in your area. This weekend we planted over 100 tree seeds. In our local hills. We began germinating over 300 tree seeds, we ordered over 4000 eco-friendly seeds that will do well on the hillsides. And we listed off all of the plants and trees on our property that are eco-friendly and easy to propagate (grow without seeds) and will begin propagating them to plant after the rains. You can too! I am continuously posting things that are a part of what we researched and I will be posting progress. Track our adventure and hopefully there are tips here that will inspire you to contribute as well.
I ran across this sketch I did of David Bowie. Never completed it because the news of his death hit mid drawing. Loved what this artist created in his time. He was so fascinating and interested as well. There is a reason he hit the status of legend.
Dear Hikers of So Cal, I’ve been doing a little research lately on the topic of terraforming. California during the summers has been struck with pretty terrible fires. We also have a good deal of air pollution. Did you know that there are amazing plants that are not only pretty and natural to So Cal but are also fire resistant and clean the air of toxins. Next time you are enjoying a hike maybe you can contribute by taking a small Sage plant, aloe plant, ice plant, or some of the other wonderful low sitting plants out to the the trail with you and plant one or two along the way. Let’s “Johnny Apple Seed” and get the hillsides of So Cal looking beautiful as well as protecting them and our air. #hiking#terraforming#socal#environment#sage#aloe#losangeles#la#changetheworld
Anyone who knows me well knows I believe we create our own futures. A friend asked me why I chose a tarot card as the subject to one of my jackets because they know this about me. The symbolism is what I like. This card is about strength, action and courage and is highly symbolic of a women’s skill in this area. What I like most though is the concept of mind over matter. When a woman (or man) decides upon something with courage they can tame even a lion. This is why I chose this as a subject matter. (Shameless plug: it’s available for sale through my Etsy account) #createddenim#ootd#symbolism#createyourfuture#handpainted
