I took six different packages to the post office today to mail/mail back, and I’m just wondering if there is a specific place to nominate myself for Adult of the Year or do I just put it on a general website?
.
I also bought, assembled, and organized my canned goods into this contraption today, and I threw away a container of beef bullion cubes that expired in 2009.
.
GIVE ME MY ADULT PRIZES.

PODCASTING IS SO LIT.
.
It is my favorite thing. I cannot believe what I was missing before I started this gig. There is NO better way to pass an hour: exercising, chores, driving, cooking, laundry, getting ready in the morning...listening to podcasts makes it all ZIP BY. I've sat in my car in the driveway to finish listening.
.
Speaking of, you're going to love today's guest, @msrachelhollis! She rolls right up into this series, "For the Love of New Beginnings," on fiiiiiiiyer.
.
Been wanting to start something? Try something? Take a risk? Take a chance? Feel underqualified and underprepared?
.
THIS IS YOUR EPISODE.

MLK was one of the greatest teachers and activists that ever lived. His devastating social analysis was precise, clear, and accurate. His call toward peace and equality was precise, clear, and accurate. He represented truth among lies that were masked by religion.
.
Which side of this do we want to be on? When we're 95 yrs old, what do we want to say we fought for? Did we side with equality, justice, & the common good? Did we? Did we put our words & hands to good use? Did we call out racism though it would be called a "temper tantrum"?
.
My thoughts on #mlk and on being called an irrational, unintelligent Debbie Downer” over on my FB page. Link in profile: https://business.facebook.com/jenhatmaker/photos/a.217119135053756.44273.203920953040241/1516259168473073/?type=3&theater

A highlight of every January is speaking at @noondaycollection’s outstanding conference: #SHINE! I have never missed one.
.
I believe in my girl @jessicahonegger so much. And I believe in Noonday and all the ambassadors. I believe in the artisans around the world. And I super believe in Jessica’s upcoming first book: Imperfect Courage! I have read every word and it is just a stunner. My friend is a world changer and I love her with my whole heart.
.
Leather leggings by @evereveofficial and was delighted to find out @jamieivey and @hrdadams also had them on today at Shine. 😂 #triplets

It has taken me almost a full day to be able to respond to Trump's racist description and rejection of immigrants coming to America through the visa lottery system from "shithole countries" like Haiti and apparently all of Africa. Then his crystal clear follow up statement: "We should have more people coming in from places like Norway."
.
I am not even going to respond to the blatant racism and ignorance embedded in his worldview. His perspective of those countries and their people is so profoundly evil and imbecilic, it is literally beneath us to start rolling out the litany of merits, beauty, history, contributions, resilience, culture, intelligence, global leaders, and wisdom these places and people have shaped the world with before the "United States of America" was even represented on a world map. I have two Ethiopian children who outrank Trump in every decent category and they are not out of middle school.
.
He is more than a fool; he is a practicing, fact-rejecting, truth-denying, white supremacist and if we think for one minute every policy, every executive order, every veto, every nomination, and every piece of legislation is not being filtered through this evil, dangerous, nationalist worldview, we are deluding ourselves.
.
We cannot by any stretch expect him to be contained or controlled, so the onus is on us and on the rest of our representatives. Our reps need to hear from us loud and clear that not only will we not stand by this behavior, but we will vote out anyone who does.
.
Our communities and families should also hear our voices plainly that we condemn this language, this absurd perspective, this racism, and this "America First" Trump is determined to build out of the ruins of what used to be a decent, compassionate neighbor to the world.
.
As for me, I am going to have to figure out how to talk to my two Ethiopian children today about why the President of this country, of which they are bright and beautiful dual-citizens, called their birth home, birth families, birth culture, and birth country a shithole, activity trying to figure out how to welcome fewer of them here.

For her homework, Remy had to ask people in “our generation” (😐) a time when they jumped on a “bandwagon” so I told her about teased, sprayed bangs, which she said “sounded super weird” but look at this child’s hair right now and tell me she should not be throwing 80s shade? #highsidepony #scrunchieonthewrist

Guys, I'm doing a "food program" (ugh) and it requires me to drink like a gallon of water a day and I'm just super sick of the toilet. And yes I obviously checked and "coffee and wine" are not suitable water substitutes. And I also obviously asked if "bread counted as carbs" and apparently it does because this program is like communism.
.
Not treating your body like a garbage dumpster is good but also it sucks. Garbage is fun and it tastes delicious. You know what doesn't taste delicious? A gallon of water. It just tastes like $10 extra in toilet paper every week.
.
Anyone else hopping off the garbage train for awhile?

Guess what super fun thing is about to happen?
.

We're right in the middle of such a special series on the #ForTheLovePodcast called For the Love of New Beginnings where we're celebrating fresh starts and new ideas. This week's episode just feels so timely and important and I'm thrilled to place it in your hands. ⠀
.⠀
If you caught the live stream I did on Monday with my ride-or-die, thick-as-thieves friends, @sarahbessey @taralivesay @sarahfordgoodfellow @kristenhowerton and @jamiethevwm then you know that this is one of the Top 5 questions that I get asked ALL THE TIME.⠀
.⠀
"Jen, how can I build a tribe like the one that you have with your friends?"⠀
.⠀
"How do I find that kind of community in my own little space?"⠀
.⠀
"Why is making friends so hard?"⠀
.⠀
The short answer is: It takes work. It takes commitment. And, it takes time. It requires being vulnerable and honest and real but it is absolutely possible and these friendships are attainable for absolutely everyone. The single most important piece of advice I can give you is to "JUST DO IT." Just say yes to an invite. Just get over having to have everything perfect and Pinterest-worthy and open your home up some afternoon to a handful of people you want to get to know better. Just take that first leap.⠀
.⠀
My guest on the podcast today took that leap not too long ago in her own little community here in Austin and it started a movement across the entire country of neighbors and people who were practically strangers to one another gathering in their front yards and beginning those tribe-building conversations around a little Turquoise Table. I'm so excited to have @kristinkschell on the show today to tell us her story!
.⠀
After you give this episode a listen, I want to know - What teeny, tiny step or great big leap are you going to take to build new relationships this year? Let us know so we can cheer you on!⠀
.⠀
To New Beginnings!⠀

Let me describe the women on this boat: smart, godly, embarrassingly loyal, hilarious, world-changers, kind, spicy, precious, relentlessly connected. We talk almost every single day. We spend three days together the first week of January every year the last five years. We know everything about each other. EVERYTHING. We have seen each other through so many triumphs and rock bottoms. We cheer each other on like obsessed sister wives. We love each others’ kids. We write each others’ forewords. We fight each others’ enemies. We laugh at each others’ jokes.
.
They are some of the great loves of my life. Hang on to your women, guys. Make time for them. Wrap up in blankets with them. Watch the Golden Globes with them. Be their biggest fan. ❤️
