Alright another long post from me..🙈
Sept 8, 2013: 5 years ago, on this date was my first ever "Palm Roots"
Here I am, a little emotional and extremely grateful of the journey its been. There were a very few people who believed that a Tamil, female photographer could get the attention of the community and create an impact. I was perceived as being arrogant for believing that my photos would actually be worthy enough to sell and raise enough funds. A year later, in 2014, I made my biggest sale to date when a photo I took was sold for $7000 which was then donated to provide scholarships for young girls in Vanni (North Sri Lanka)
In 2015, when I thought Palm Roots didnt have the longevity I had hoped for, I met the right people who continued to believe in the idea and pushed me to take it a little further. Here I am in 2018, putting together my 5th event slated to take place on November 4th.
My motive was always to help people, especially children who had big dreams but werent able to pursue them due to their financial conditions. And using art to make this happen was just a reminder for us to rethink the power of art and being an artist.
Looking back at how far this event has come, I cannot be thankful enough to God, my family, my mentors, sponsors and most importantly my friends for your positivity and support. You've all helped me believe in dreams coming true and have hope in Humanity ❤🙏 #PalmRoots
