Jamie Golden  Podcaster.🎙 Educating people on things that don’t matter (@thepopcast) and things that do (@thebiblebinge). 🐿 ADD Survivor 🏡 Birmingham

Five years ago today @knoxmccoy and I launched @thepopcast. I didn’t even listen to podcasts so it was this crazy whim that my ENFP | Enneagram 7 | Strength Finders Woo brain simply thought would be fun. And it has been. Weirdly, it’s no longer a whim, it’s my actual job. THAT IS BONKERS. For a long time, I couldn't understand how there could be an ounce of ministry in us talking about TV or movies or famous Chrises. But tucked away in the corner of this weird job has been laughter and friendship and purpose - each one quietly pointing to the father who designed them.
🎧 To the one who told us she binge listened on the 8 hour drive to her father’s funeral.
🎧 To the one who told us he found common ground with his teenage daughter while listening to our Bachelor recaps.
🎧 To the one who told us she took us to her second job cleaning houses so she could go back to school.
🙏And to the God who gently reminded me through all of this that He is the one who defines “ministry,” not me.

My business partner SLASH podcast cohost SLASH friend (Knox...we’re friends👋) gave me an advance copy of his book today. I’ve never been prouder of something I had nothing to do with. Except maybe Chicken Minis from CFA.
A few chapter titles:
🤜 The First Time I Was Punched in The Face
🚘 The Sexy Car Wash
🐶 Knox McCoy, Canine Evangelist

🇫🇷 Day 6: We had a free day in the middle of our #literaryLondon trip and @brimckoy and I headed to Paris to stroll with emotional smokers and search for baguettes and crepes. It was a rêver come true. {detailed recap in Stories}

🇬🇧 “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matthew 11:28-30, The Message | Grateful I got to wander and rest along side these women for the past 10 days. Who among you could use a rest? Where would you go? Who would you go with? #literarylondon #travelswithtsh

🇬🇧Day 9. The sign specifically said “no pictures” and I know some might suggest taking a picture with my mind, but this was no ordinary moment. This was the Gospel of John on 3rd century Papyrus with reference to Jesus’ baptism, his meeting of Mary Magdalene, and His words at the Last Supper. This image is now stored in the cloud. As God intended. #literarylondon #travelswithtsh (check Stories for the other item I broke the rule for)

🇬🇧Day 8. Off to Oxford University because #literarylondon must include C.S. Lewis and Tolkien. Their writing group, The Inklings, met weekly at The Eagle and Child. In June 1950, Lewis distributed the proofs for The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. 🦁 “Wrong will be right, when Aslan comes in sight, At the sound of his roar, sorrows will be no more, When he bares his teeth, winter meets its death, And when he shakes his mane, we shall have spring again.” 😍 #travelswithtsh

🇬🇧 Day 7. We explored Jane Austen’s hometown and it was all fresh again why I love her. I love Anne’s self-sacrifice in Persuasion. I love the snark of Northanger Abbey. I love my own personal search for Mr. Knightley. But I mostly love the author. Jane once wrote “know your own happiness” - a mantra worth repeating. She was pulled from school at 11 and learned to write by reading. She turned down proposals from wealthy, wonky men because alone was better than not. She was witty and smart and cared deeply for everyday people living ordinary lives. May the same be said of me. What’s your favorite JA novel or adaptation? 📖 #literarylondon #travelswithtsh

🇬🇧 Day 5 details in Stories. Today, I fed the birds on the steps of St. Paul’s Cathedral. The first movie I remember asking to watch again and again was Mary Poppins. Mary planted a seed for this trip all those years ago. She was the first Disney “princess” I met that didn’t scheme for a fella and was confident in who she was. Pop culture matters. Which characters shaped your childhood? #travelswithtsh #literarylondon

🇬🇧 Day 4 (details in Stories). I separated from the group for the changing of the guard because a 5’2” lady with a royals obsession needs to be on the front. When I squeezed in a corner spot, I met Hedge. He had lugged his DSLR camera, his wife Renee, and their friend Annette to see the festivities. Hedge and Renee met Annette last year at their vacation hotel where Annette is a casino dealer. They asked Annette what they should see in Las Vegas and she offered to take them on a tour on her day off. So they went. When Annette mentioned she’d never left the U.S. and didn’t think she would because she had no one to travel with, Hedge and Renee offered her a place to stay in their London home. So she went. When the Palace ceremony ended, Hedge offered to email me the pictures he took and wrote down a short list of restaurants and places I should visit while I’m here. May we all be more like Hedge, Renee, and Annette.

⛪ I normally attend church at a high school gym, but today I went here. Westminster Abbey has been telling the good news for more than ONE THOUSAND years.
Today, this was the sermon note I left tucked in my pocket: “Do you ever find yourself wondering if you love God? Don’t fret about that. Just remember God is in love with you. And that really is an astonishing thought.” The Venerable David Stanton
That’s a good word under a basketball goal or a fan vaulted ceiling designed in the 13th century. {🇬🇧Day 3 recap is up in Stories.} #travelswithtsh #literarylondon

🇬🇧 Day 2: Stories has the play-by play, but the day ended with 8 of us gathered around the table eating steak and ale pie and sharing things we brought with us to London that didn’t fit in our packing cubes. Things like work decisions, family struggles, autumns that are looming.
Grateful for @emilypfreeman who is our spiritual director this week who opened our guidebooks with this: “There is always a quiet narrative taking place on the level of your soul. I simply want to help you hold open a little space so you can hear it. We don’t have to choose between being tourists and being pilgrims. The truth is, we are both. Sometimes we have to leave home to remember what we hold most dear, to see the truth of the incarnation, to remember again who we are and how we’re made.” THAT’LL PREACH. #TravelswithTsh #LiteraryLondon

Day 1 in London is recapped in Stories but please know the highlight of it was two GLORIOUS hours of black tea and eating food made on The Great British Bake-off. #travelswithtsh #literarylondon
