Let’s Talk Training

These days there are so many sources of information on how you should train; often fluffing about how to get ripped or jacked quick, marketed towards beginners or the yet to learn, and often without detailing the fundamentals of what should be implemented in your training
-
So just what is happening when we train? We are introducing a stimulus to our body. How does our body react to this stimulus, by adapting; becoming stronger or more efficient
-
What happens when this stimulus no longer provides adaptive benefits? We plateau. How do we overcome this plateau? By progressing the stimulus
-
When we progressive overload the stimulus to our body there are 3 main things we can alter/increase
-
Total Volume = The amount of work done/sets in the gym
Load = How much poundage you lift for said exercises
Intensity = How hard said training is/how close to failure you train
-
Does this mean going into the gym balls to the wall and smashing it out til you can no longer walk or vomit your way out the door? No
-
This sort of training will soon become counter intuitive, by having no volume, load, or intensity to increase when a plateau occurs, overloading your systemic fatigue or by injury due to overtraining (yes, it’s a thing)
-
Progressively overload your training with at least 2 of those 3 principles (ideally all 3). Execute a bit of patience, persistence and perseverance. And enjoy the process

It has been two years since I was announced in remission for the second time on July 4th 2016; following a Bone Marrow Transplant earlier that year.
-
Lots of crazy experiences and achievements have happened along the way since that date, and I am forever incredibly thankful to have had, and continue to have, you all supporting me through any endeavour

Pictured is today, 2016 anniversary, and my initial remission announcement in 2015. Soon to be followed by countless more years of health and happiness down the line 💪🏻

Where the currency comes in the form of followers, and an individual’s self worth comes from their amount of likes
-
I’ve been documenting my life/journey for 4+ years now, and I’ve always been so thankful of the positive impact it has brought to so many lives
-
But there has been times where I’ve focussed more on the quantity than the quality. Basing my self worth off of how many followers I would gain, rather than realising and embracing the amazing community of people we have built here
-
It got to the point where opening my social media accounts would give me a surge of anxiety; and if something didn’t go as planned or if I lost a bunch of followers it would impact my happiness. And I know this impacts a lot of people; some resorting to buying followers and likes, or changing who they are on social media to substitute this happiness
-
Which is why you’ve see me take frequent hiatuses from posting, because I could see myself spiraling down this unhealthy mindset again. And I think it is important to take a step back and take a break, rather than continue to go down that slippery slope
-
Lots of people want to be the next big thing; to be recognised and popular. But it is important to stay true to yourself in this pursuit
-
Do not let the amount of followers or likes you receive determine your self worth
Your amount of likes won’t change the world, Your positive efforts will

New Deadlift PR

My sumo deadlift continues to be my biggest and most favoured lift; Despite a few weeks away from the movement
Hitting the sumo style reduces a few inches of ROM, and takes away the ‘disadvantage’ of long femurs for us long people
-
Tonight hitting 2 sets of 200kg for 3, and finishing with 2 sets of 210kg/460lbs for 3 (pictured). Putting my calculated Max at roughly 230kg, surpassing my recent deadlift goal of 500lbs
-
