As the great grandson of immigrants who came to the United States to find a better life, I find the Supreme Court decision today to be an outrage. The decision upholds a policy which began as a desire to have “a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States.”
America the free? Home of the brave? This policy feels more like cowardice to me. The ideals we claim to be so proud of as Americans... the ideals that my grandparents fought for in WWII, both my Jewish grandfather and my Christian one, are being eroded away by fear and hate.
There are many ways in which I am proud of my family, my neighbors and my country. However, similarly to the way I feel about Japanese American internment camps, Native American boarding schools and countless other violations against humanity, today I feel shame.
