Found this in an #attic today, besides the #creepy #manequins as I popped my head up, there is also a box of "#women are from #Venus..." #books.

Laetiporus is a genus of edible mushrooms found throughout much of the world. Some species, especially Laetiporus sulphureus, are commonly known as sulphur shelf, chicken of the woods, the chicken mushroom, or the chicken fungus because many think they taste like chicken. The name "chicken of the woods" is not to be confused with the edible polypore, Maitake (Grifola frondosa) known as "hen of the woods", or with Lyophyllum decastes, known as the "fried chicken mushroom". #mycology #mushroom #mushrooms #nature #forest

Southeastern Five-lined #Skink Plestiodon inexpectatus. The skinks can live for around 6 years in the #wild, but for up to 10 years as pets or in #zoo #captivity. These five-lined skinks are found widely scattered across the southeastern #USA. The geographical range extends from southern #Maryland to the #wildlife Florida Keys, and west of #Tennessee, #Mississippi, #Kentucky, and the eastern part #Louisiana, avoiding most parts of the #Appalachian #Mountains. All the three species of skinks found in the North #American state of Florida, viz. the southeastern five-lined, the common five-lined, and the broadhead skinks, are widely referred to as ‘#scorpions’, and it is believed that they have a #poisonous #sting. However, this belief is completely false. Though they might #bite, if provoked, but these skinks are completely harmless to #humans, and are also not dangerous or harmful to domestic #dogs or #cats. #nature #outdoors

#Fowler's #Toad Anaxyrus fowleri. Fowler's toad (Anaxyrus fowleri, formerly Bufo fowleri ) is a species of toad in the family Bufonidae. It is native to North America, where it occurs in much of the eastern United States and parts of adjacent Canada. It was previously considered a subspecies of Woodhouse's toad (Anaxyrus woodhousii, formerly Bufo woodhousii) #outdoors #nature #wildlife

#leafy #jelly #fungus Tremella foliacea is a species of fungus producing brownish, frondose, gelatinous basidiocarps (fruit bodies). It is widespread, particularly in north temperate regions, and is parasitic on other species of fungi (Stereum spp.), that grow on dead attached and recently fallen branches of broadleaf trees and conifers. Common names include leafy brain, jelly leaf, and brown witch's butter. The species is said to be edible, but is not much valued. #mycology #nature #outdoors

Red-spotted #Newt. It frequents small #lakes, #ponds, and #streams or near-by wet #forests. The eastern newt produces tetrodotoxin which makes the species unpalatable to predatory fish and crayfish.[2] It has a lifespan of 12 to 15 years in the wild, and may grow to five inches in length. These animals are common aquarium pets, being either collected from the wild or sold commercially. The striking bright orange juvenile stage, which is land-dwelling, is known as a red eft. Some sources blend the general name of the species and that of the red-spotted newt subspecies into eastern red-spotted newt (although there is no "western" one). #nature #wildlife (it's not a damn #salamander 😅)

The #quokka is a small macropod about the size of a domestic #cat.Like other #marsupials in the macropod family (such as #kangaroos and #wallabies), the quokka is #herbivorous and mainly #nocturnal. #animals #nature #outdoors
