Why you Need to go on a Trek Date before Getting Married. .

Most couples who are thinking of getting married waste an enormous amount of time dating each other over expensive cups of coffee in the hope that they’ll get to know each other better.

I have bad news for you. You won’t.

In an artificial setting like a coffee shop, restaurant or a park, you only talk. Yet, we spend most of our married life doing things – making breakfast, going to office, sending the kids to school. And in doing these ordinary tasks we display our love, respect and consideration towards one other. It cements our bond and our marriage becomes stronger.

A trek date is an excellent way to check if your partner possesses the qualities to make a marriage work. On a long trek – preferably over 5-6 days – the mask of the city wears off quickly and the real person surfaces. It makes sense to keenly observe this real person.

Going on a trek date is the new way of seeing the most important person in your life. .

Trek Leader Mihir (@mihir.and.rao) is a Bengali from Pune, can speak 5 languages and holds deep appreciation for all forms of art. “The Western Ghats were my playground throughout the school and college days. But I never thought I would ever lead treks in the Himalayas. I was the head of the trekking club for a year in college and even then I did not think of trekking outside the Western Ghats, forget working as a Trek Leader in the Himalayas. .
It was only after I came to know about Indiahikes that this fire got lit in me - to move towards the Himalayas; towards high altitude treks. .
I did my http://B.Sc. in economics from Symbiosis Pune. After graduation, I took some time off to prepare for the army. Though I didn’t get in, this time off gave me immense knowledge and perspective about our country and the world. It is something that I consider priceless.

I always had this deep sense of curiosity for people who come from different pockets of India. The Himalayan people have grown up in environments that requires toughness. But at the same time they thrive here and live an extremely peaceful, minimalistic and balanced lifestyle. This has always intrigued me. There is a lot to learn from the people here: their personalities, characteristics, way of life, the way they think, how and what they prioritise in their lives. .

TREKKING FIT I always push myself physically and mentally to realise my limits. If you don’t push yourself everyday, you will never experience that one particular state of being where you are at peace with your body and mind. .

We're all social animals. So to keep fit, surround yourself with such people. Create an environment conducive to your goal. Build a world around you that helps you in your struggle to stay fit. .

After every storm, the sun will shine. Isn't that so true! Our trek leader @singla008 shot this after the raging storm we all saw last week. It was shot on the #Brahmatal trek. .

Here's what he says, "It was my one of my best sunshines. When it came, it came with so much of happiness and so many smiles. It said it all. .

The previous night, everyone on my team saw some extreme things they had never seen in their lives. They fought hard and they fought like warriors. It was the greatest adventure that they experienced in the mighty Himalayas. .

And yes, that sunshine brought about the happiest state of mind. At that moment everything was there -- the mountains, blue sky, beautiful sunshine, an awesome team."

Trek Leader Leo (@leocaptures) was already a Indiahikes Green Trails Fellow before he became a Trek Leader. Yet his journey started from taking that leap of faith.
“After graduating college, I was in a committed relationship with my IT job. The dream of uninhibited travel remained just that- a dream.
Then one day, a good soul introduced me to Indiahikes. My first Himalayan trek to Roopkund changed my life forever. For the first time, I knew what I really wanted.”
While on the trek, Green Trails left a strong impact on Leo, “so much that I quit my job and started organising clean up drives in the mountains. I then applied for the Green Trails Fellowship at Indiahikes. And the next thing I know, I was living in a remote village, trying to bring change by teaching in schools, creating awareness amongst the locals, segregating waste and finding ways to solve their problems. With every passing day, I felt my love for the daunting green grow.
I was trekking as a Green Trails Fellow with a group of trekkers. Bad weather caused them to be evacuated. I pitched in to help our Trek Leader bring everyone to safety. He had faith in me. He was a friend of mine and believed that I could handle the situation.
It was a tough day but getting them to safety was our only concern. A sense of responsibility gushed in. Gulping down the fear I had, I took full control of the situation.
That day, two good things happened: the team was brought down safe and the Trek Leader in me was born. And soon, I got the opportunity to lead my own batches.
As a TL, the best part about my job is that I get to experience different stories every week. I am employed in the mountains doing a job with ample career opportunities to grow in the sustainability space. Both of these opportunities would not have crossed my path if I had never decided to quit my job. It’s hard to imagine how different my life would've been if I had never taken this leap of faith.
The road is long and full of surprises. And I'm ready for all the experiences, mistakes and lessons that make this journey the invaluable life-changing adventure it’s become!

We work in the mountains around the year. We see the beauty of rain, snow, sun and winds. At the same time, we're also well acquainted with the fury of the very same elements. We know how dangerous they can all be.

We hope all of you going on winter treks stay safe and warm. Reach out to our base camps / campsites if you are stranded or sick and in need of help. We're currently present on the #Kedarkantha (in picture), #Brahmatal, #DayaraBugyal and #Sandakphu treks. .

Take care!

"I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields, that it kisses them so gently? And then it covers them up snug, you know, with a white quilt, and perhaps it says, "Go to sleep, darlings, till the summer comes again." - Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland
