Ilina Ewen  Love words, cooking, stamps in my passport, a tidy house, 80s music, jaunty dresses with pockets, & the Oxford comma. Accidental activist.

Lovely little breakfast joint that’s part cafe, part old school soda shop, part pharmacy. Delicious homemade jams, hot sauces, and pickles. #raleigh #breakfast #eatlocal @thepharmacycafe

Wearing orange in solidarity with my sons and other kids who are walking out today to protest gun violence. These students have more gumption and heart than our lawmakers. I’m proud of my sons and their peers for using their voices, but I’m pissed that the adults running this country have put kids in this position. Do better, America. #enough #nationalwalkoutday #walkout #gunsense @momsdemand

We are women. Hear us ROAR. Celebrating #internationalwomensday with @flonc and @elizabeth_smart_official to support @ourvoicenc. #pressforprogress

I guess we know what it sounds like when doves cry. 17 gun shots. #floridaschoolshooting #parkland #neveragain #enough #gunsense #marchforourlives @momsdemand @marchforourlives

Proud to call @dennisaogbe and @nicolette4orangecounty my friends. Dennis is a badass Paralympian and polio survivor. Nicolette is a badass woman running for office for the first time. I know some awesome people. Friends who advocate together stay together. @shotatlife brought us together. #vaccineswork

Best place in the world to kill time between #CapitolHill meetings.

On the Hill again with @nicolette4orangecounty to advocate for access to vaccines in the developing world. Every 20 seconds a child dies of a vaccine preventable disease. @shotatlife #vaccineswork #advocacy #capitolhill #washingtondc

My fifth appendage is a microphone. Here I am giving a shout out for @shotatlife. #vaccineswork

#tbt To the teacher who taught both my sons when they were 4 year old little spitfires. She prepared them for kindergarten, and along with @krisj6423 and @cadaly5, inspired them to follow their curiosity and unleash their imagination. She gave me advice when I was a stressed mother of toddlers and boosted me as I stumbled into the role of the mother of teens. Ms. Carol was nurturing, patient, funny, and generous. She personifies the importance of early childhood education. I shall continue to beat the drum to fund preschool and education for ALL children because I know firsthand what it has meant for my own. Carol was our teacher almost 9 years ago, yet we stayed in touch all these years. She cheered and celebrated all our milestones over the years and was the first to remind me to slow down and absorb joy. When the boys were little she taught me to focus on their needs, not their whims. When I saw her last Saturday she told me to remember to allow the boys to make mistakes and face the world’s consequences and enjoy its rewards for positive behavior. She thanked me for sharing my sons with her. And then we said goodbye as I kissed her on the cheek. Heaven welcomed a new angel yesterday, and we are heartbroken.
