I've only seen my Dad cry two times in my life. The first in 2014 when he apologized for his absence in my life, which led to me gaining the father I've always wanted. In the three years since I've gotten to know my Dad, I have learned how amazing he is. From fighting on the front line in the Vietnam War - earning a Purple Heart - to marching with Martin Luther King, Jr. in Selma. I have been considered a soldier, because of what I have overcome. However, today marks the second time I saw my dad cry (in which I cried as well), as I saluted my favorite soldier on FaceTime for not only fighting for our rights and this country, but for fighting himself to change and be the Dad I've always wanted. You are MY HERO! I LOVE YOU DAD!
