Happy Pride! 💛🧡💚 This week has been filled with so many reminders of all the love, creativity, and strength of our community. Thank you to the entire @bubble____t fam for all the work you put in creating this amazing space, this month and every month. Remember that our increasing visibility comes with added power and responsibility — and that while we celebrate our families, other families have literally been torn apart by this current administration. It’s our job to use whatever voice we have to speak out against injustice. Vote, donate, call your representatives, volunteer and protest! Be vocal!

Part 6: That same week I performed at @sashavelour ’s Nightgowns. I spent weeks in rehearsals and in the studio trying to get everything perfect. In May of last year I first saw nightgowns at National Sawdust and my mind was blown. I had a vision of myself performing on that stage and I put it out into the universe. When I got the call I was over the moon but I knew every detail had to be perfect. I sewed over 180 yards of tulle to make this dress and was quite literally sewing up until the last second. The rest was magic.
I guess what I’m trying to get at by posting this series is that yes I was nominated for Queen of the year/best looks but win or lose I had the most rewarding year anyone could ask for. And it’s only year one. I still have so much time to grow and to keep pushing myself. I’m so thankful for everyone who has been a part of this journey. IF you want to vote for me you have till the 6/1 (Friday). Link will be in my bio.

Part 5: The story behind this look is still really funny to me. I had a plan for a really elaborate tulle dress that I wanted to make for lunar new year at PS1, and within a week I got 3 or 4 gigs that really reset my focus. The day of the show I spent nearly 12 hours on set shooting the cover of out magazine. I finished up and still had nothing to wear for PS1 so I ran to my studio and whipped this up in maybe an hour or two. I got to the gig exhausted and very late and had to perform immediately. I wasn’t expecting the crowd to be as massive as it was but the entire room was packed. I did my number for a sea of shining faces and as soon as I got off stage I just crashed. What we do isn’t easy, but that’s how you know that you love it.

Part 4: This is still one of my favorite looks that I’ve pulled to date. Not the most time consuming or difficult to make but when I pulled up to @elsewherespace for Gardens I felt like the BADDEST BITCH. You could not tell me otherwise. I was super nervous because I was definitely the worst dancer in the gogo lineup but this look had me feeling myself. I still get self conscious about the way that I dance, but I’ve come to realize that if you’re having fun and enjoying yourself, nothing else matters.

Part 3: This is the dress I made for my birthday party at @therosemontnyc back in January. This was probably the most fun night I’ve had in Brooklyn (and honestly in recent memory). I’m still so touched thinking about how willing so many people were to make this party happen and to bring my vision to life. I said that I wanted the bar to be so full that people couldn’t move and I can still remember looking out from the stage at a sea of faces from so many different parts of my life. That and the deafening screams — I’ve never felt more loved.

Part 2: I created this piece in collaboration with @confettisystem for my first time performing at @bubble____t at MoMA PS1. It was such an honor to perform in that space but more so to be able to perform with and represent my queer Asian fam. I’m half Filipino but because most of my dad’s family is still in the Philippines, I never really had the experience of big family gatherings. I had a handful of moments but I always kind of felt like an outsider or a spectator. Bubble T was the first time I felt like I had that big Asian family. It’s a bond that’s hard to describe but it’s made me stronger and more in touch with myself.
