Finally made it to Regional Assembly of Text for their Letter Writing Club! I arrived shortly after the 7 pm start and all the seats at the typewriters were filled with people click clacking away, with the ring of a bell at the end of the line and rrrrrrrratchet of the return. Happy noises! While waiting for the next available spot, I had a quick browse around this shop and saw many beautiful things 😍. If you are looking for unique greeting cards, they produce their own and if you have a stationery lover in your gift list, you will have to check them out! They also have some fun monthly mail subscriptions you can sign up for.
When I finally got to sit down, this Royal awaited me. I can’t recall when the last time I sat in front of one, but was able to remember enough that I got through although it was funny to discover some machines didn’t have the number 1 or an exclamation mark! It felt odd to have to use so much pressure as I’m sure there are many of us who cringe at the loud keyboarder at the next cubicle! ⌨️
I typed up envelopes and wrote the first page of a letter to a certain snail mailer. I hope the recipients will forgive the mistakes. I then switched to an Olympia which was almost like the one I learned to type on (which my Mother gave away without asking me when she was downsizing😭). Now I really want a typewriter if my own.
It was a bit daunting as I felt like I had to type quickly as there were people waiting so my one letter was like a stream of consciousness...after several whiskies 😄.
Thanks to the Regional Assembly of Text for hosting this Letter Writing Club and Rebecca for answering my many questions. If you want to join the fun, it’s the first Thursday of every month, 7:00-9:30 pm. See you next time!
