Happy Monday, ya little Kit Kats. It's been a while because I've been, ya know, yatching and eating bon bons and other things that stay-at-home moms like to do. It's been keeping me pretty busy, picking out all my nautical costumes and then lying around in them so I didn't really have time to post. But now I've hired someone to help me with all that (she has three toddlers so I felt like she was qualified) so I can occasionally hop on and say "Bon Voyage!", which is yatch speak for "If you lick your sister one more time I'm going to do something really, really serious, even though I have no idea what that might be." BON VOYAGE! // On a side note: I look seriously preggers in the photo, which goes to show you 1. angles are everything and 2. I need to seriously watch my bon bon intake. πŸ˜‚ BON VOYAGE!

Okay, you guys, for today's Five Minute Fun, we're taking it old school with Have a Staring Contest. β €
β €
Remember these from elementary school where you'd make crazy faces at each other and the first person to laugh lost? Yeah, I totally rocked at them so BRING IT, LITTLE GAL. β €
In this case, we upped our game by pulling out the costume box and then not letting each other see our outfit until we turned around, which added a lot to the suspense, and helped me win. It probably also helped that I've played before (#expert), have a will of steel πŸ‘Š, and, oh yeah, AM AN ADULT πŸ™„.β €
β €
This is a good one to pull out when you're waiting around for food, the doctor, or trying to get them out of a mood. Or, apparently, want to relive the glory days of your youth.πŸ˜‚#fiveminutefun

Happy Monday! So, I think I inadvertently created a challenge, you guys! I've been writing my newsletter and doing these hot tips every week to help make sure fun shows up consistently and I suddenly realized if I challenge you to do them with me, IT WILL BE LEGIT. πŸ‘ŠπŸΌ#slowlearneralwaysβ €
β €
So, will you join my challenge? πŸ˜‚β €
β €
Last week's (which I'm carrying over) is one of my faves because it is: DO SOMETHING FOR THE PURE JOY OF IT. 😱 WHAT!?!?! Noooooooo! Don't make me do fun things!!!!!β € Seriously, though, I challenge you to do one thing this week for the sole reason that it's fun. Not because it moves you further ahead in life or makes you a better person or gives you a tighter rear; you're doing it because it brings you joy and THAT'S REASON ENOUGH. β €

I'm kicking us off with a stack of books that have nothing to do with business or personal growth and are all about bringing me happiness because reading is my favorite thing. The wine in a can is an added bonus because, you guys, IT'S WINE IN A CAN.β € Want to play along? πŸ’ƒπŸ» Show me what you're doing with #seriousfunchallenge. And you can also check out more about this tip on the blog πŸ‘†πŸΌ or sign up for my newsletter for the rest of the tips and, OMG, LET'S GO HAVE FUN!

Things that were definitely NOT big mistakes this week: giving "Master of None" a second try, pulling out my wide legged jeans, spending a full afternoon meal prepping for the month, hiking instead of working, eating @johnnydoughnuts. Twice.πŸ©β €
Things I really should have thought through more carefully: letting the kids stay up until 9pm on a school night😫, not showering after hiking before a meeting where EVERYONE hugged me, letting the kids eat ice cream in the back of our new car, eating half a bag of marshmallows as a snack, going to @zara's website for blog post research. 😬

All in all, a pretty effective week, don't you think? πŸ˜‚πŸ’ͺ🏼
β €
What about you? Got any non-mistakes or, erp, mistakes you want to get off your chest? Happy Friday!

You know what kids really love? When you tell them not to do something and they DO IT ANYWAY. (Exhibit A: Every child every day of their entire life).β €
β €
So, today's Super-Easy Fun is tell your kids not to laugh. Wha?! But, that's so silly! Exactly. β €
β €
I like to make it really dramatic like, "Okay, you guys, whatever you do, please, please, please, don't laugh, even once, even the teeniest bit, k?" And then, of course, they start rolling.β €
β €
This also works for telling them not to have fun, not to try a new food, or definitely do not give your mommy a kiss! (I use it sometimes at preschool drop off when Bennett's nervous and it's amazing how quickly he'll be giggling, telling me he IS going to have fun.)β €
β €
You should definitely try it. Or... definitely don't try it, okay? I mean don't even test it out today on your kids because it's a TERRIBLE IDEA and if you do it, NO ONE WILL HAVE A GOOD TIME. WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T TEST OUT THIS SUPER-EASY FUN. (See, totally works. And I should win an award for hilarity. πŸ˜‚)β €

DAMMIT. I forgot my kids can't read. πŸ™„πŸ˜¬πŸ˜‰

So, you know what's better than one email newsletter? Two of them! OMG. πŸ˜‚ For as long as I can remember I've wanted to launch a newsletter so, in typical Kara fashion, I decided why do one when you could do two? 😬 But, it's actually going really well because I'm obsessed with both the topics so they're flying off the shelves or screens or whatever.β €
β €
And you should totally sign up through the link above! If you want to! I feel weird about these things! I'll just keep using exclamation marks so you don't sense my weirdness!β €
β €
Anyway, Newsy #1 is all about Mom Fun and I started a Fun Challenge that you can read about on the blog where you get one tip a week for ways to fun up your life + random things to (hopefully) make you happy.β €
β €
Newsy #2 is my Go Get 'Em, Tiger email and is full of tips for growing your business and social without losing your mind or free time. Like, tomorrow's email is all about if switching to an Instagram business account is a good idea and then next week's is how I post content even when I'm feeling TERRIFIED (like right now). πŸ˜Žβ €
β €
And here's the thing. These are FOR YOU GUYS so tell me if they're hitting the mark or you want to see other things or whatever! And, exclamation points are back! Sign up! Or go eat a donut! Whatever! K, bye!

On a scale of 1 to 10, how likely do you think it is a husband would get on board with turning a family room ceiling into this? πŸ‘†πŸΌAlso, do you think throwing in a smoke machine would help or hurt the cause? ASKING FOR A FRIEND. πŸ•ΊπŸ’ƒπŸ»#colorfactoryco

Happy Labor Day! Today I have two words for you: Color Factory. Omg, you guys! On Friday I went with two of my creative besties, @milouandolinphotography and @nicolevfx, and you know how you used to have a good time in like college? Where you were filled with so much joy and possibility and creativity that by the end of the day your stomach would hurt from all the laughing and your brain would be exploding with new ideas? Dude, that was us @colorfactoryco.
Every room has its own personality and we'd walk in and have a million ideas for how to shoot it (a lot of them involved me making me a fool of myself, which was really weirdπŸ™„) and it was this interactive art experience with my two favorite things - color and people! I mean at one point I had a room full of people tossing confetti at me (well, except for the one guy who was more like pelting it, you know who you are Mr. Confetti Man) and we were all laughing and connected and it was SO FUN.
And I think a big part of it was doing something completely different. Going to dinner with friends is amazing (and much needed), but having an actual experience together activates completely different muscles (like your laughing and creativity ones) and takes you back to your core self. I mean, you guys, we didn't talk about our kids once. 😱

I know not everyone will get to experience the Color Factory, but what about doing something that speaks to your core and then taking your friends? The type of thing you used to do that gave you excitement butterflies but you've maybe put on the back burner because, um, the dishes. πŸ‘ŽπŸΌWhat would that be? I think for me it's more places where you're immersed in an experience and/or supporting creativity. Um, yeah, I can totally do that. πŸ˜‚ (And thank you to @jordanferney and @ohhappyday for using your gifts to create a space where three moms could leave feeling high on creativity and inspiration and worn out from so much fun. πŸŒˆπŸ’ƒπŸ»πŸ‘―)

You guys, how are we feeling about shorts? I reallllly want to like them, but every time I put them on this Summer I felt like I was waddling around, pulling them out of my rear or veering a little too close to I Am A Mom and I Dress Like One Territory. Do you guys wear them? They're on sale everywhere so trying to decide if I try another pair or just stick with my tried and true jumpsuits. 😬

Be you. Even when camping and your Colorado friends and family are silently disavowing you because you may or may not be wearing lipstick and "OMG, where is your @patagonia, Kara?!?!" πŸ˜ŽπŸ•πŸ‘ŠπŸΌ

We're hitting the road! Sort of. We've decided to have a family adventure for the last few days of break and I was fairly certain I'd be writing this from a glamorous locale at least, oh, I don't know, a half hour from our house, but due to PACKING and REPACKING and POTTY BREAKS and FORGETTING THINGS, we've settled in about 15 mins away door to door. Hey, ya gotta start somewhere, right? πŸ˜‚πŸ‘ŠπŸΌπŸ’ͺ🏼#lifewithkidsbaby
