Such an important read from #hhhretreat Speaker/Moderator, @chr1styharrison "Diet culture is getting pretty damn sneaky. In the past, diets were pretty transparent about their goal: shrinking your body, usually in as little time as possible. But now the diet industry has caught on to the fact that people aren't buying the whole lose-weight-quick scheme. Instead, there's this new fascination with "health," and the diet industry has followed the trend. Things like Whole30 and Paleo and juicing are flying under the flag of health, claiming longevity and food-as-medicine results. But don't let these new diet plans fool you. They're just as restrictive and damaging as those transparent diets of years gone by. This can make the journey to intuitive eating harder, as it gets more confusing to navigate diet culture when the diets are hiding in plain sight. But we march on, and we'll continue to call out the bullshit where we see it!" 👊🏻👊🏼👊🏽👊🏾👊🏿

Reminder to all of us from #HHHretreat Speaker/Mental Health Panelist, @freudandfashion -- "I sometimes feel like I'm sitting back waiting on mental health care reform. I created this Instagram account with the goal of raising awareness about mental health, but with May being #MentalHealthMonth, I feel the need to step up my game and encourage more of you out there to engage in more conversations about mental health, to reduce the stigma, and realize that there's ways we can each contribute towards supporting individuals (even our own friends, family) and people in our communities struggling with mental illness. •
In my practice I've found that even someone with amazing access to doctors, therapists, etc, may still struggle to overcome mental health issues if they don't have the support of people around them. Therefore, one simple thing I ask of you this month is to take a step out of your comfort zone to be more open about the topic of 'mental health' and to reach out if you think someone might be struggling. It's small gestures like these that can make a huge impact in someone's life 💚🙏. #cometogether #raiseawareness #community #mentalhealth #hhhlife

36 days until this year's #HHHretreat. 36 days until so many of you arrive in Nashville to connect and learn from over a dozen experts, professionals, and influencers as they discuss diet culture, mental health, body acceptance, and making peace with food. 36 days until a room of almost 100 women have raw, honest conversations about body image, disordered eating, postpartum depression, diet myths, anxiety, self care, and more. 36 days until we all learn and grow together, while also having a ton of fun! 🎉🙌🏼 We'll see you in 36 days ladies! Midweek reminders from #hhhretreat speaker/body acceptance panelist @powertoprevail: "Fill up the frame. The way you want to fill up your life. With you fully in it.
We don't exist in the void.
Realize that the ONE life you have is for YOU.
If someone disapproves, let them. It's not your battle, it's theirs.
Your job is to fill yourself with the things you need to accomplish the purpose of your life that your passions guide you to.
Be present to your life. Be open to your gifts. Be more than a body." @powertoprevail

Repost from #HHHretreat Speaker @chr1styharrison // "Many people discuss eating disorders and chronic dieting as if they're completely separate entities. They address eating disorder recovery in a very different way than chronic-dieting recovery (if there's even an acknowledgment that people need to recover from chronic dieting at all). This is a huge problem, though, because eating disorders and chronic dieting live on different parts of the same spectrum. Their sociological and psychological roots are very similar, and in many cases identical. They both stem from weight stigma and a sense of being "not good enough," and an attempt to "fix" it by means of manipulating food intake. So if we want to protect people against eating disorders, we must also protect them against chronic dieting, which means working to eradicate fatphobia and body shame from our society. (If you want to hear more about HAES, intuitive eating, and body positivity, head on over to wherever you get your podcasts and download the latest episode of Food Psych today! P.S. Be sure to leave a review if you love it, it really helps us reach new listeners and allows the show to grow.
