Today we celebrate the first day of summer in Iceland and we do hope that all the snow and hail of today is a good omen for the summer 😝
Luckily the horses don't mind the ever changing Icelandic weather and adapt perfectly to whatever is going on around them #horsesoficeland

First day of summer is just around the corner and we're so excited. It's a traditional Icelandic holiday, going back centuries, officially marking the end of a long winter. Bright days ahead in the land of @horsesoficeland Happy summer everyone ✌️🐴 #horsesoficeland

A number of great Icelandic Horse breeders are project partners in @Horsesoficeland. Recently, we paid a visit to Margretarhof which is a breeder located at the beautiful Krókur in Ásahreppur, on the Icelandic South Coast. Margrétarhof is a comprehensive breeding and training center, with the goal of having 8-10 competitive mares. Owned by the Montan family in Sweden, Margrétarhof is run by Icelander Reynir and his wife Aðalheiður, both graduates of the Equine Science Department from Holar University in Iceland. Margretarhof is home of Ölnir from Akranesi, an exceptional “gæðingur” with excellent temperament. Ölnir has great gaits, among those are 9 for tölt, trot and pace and 9.5 for spirit. Ölnir won the class of 5 years old stallions on Landsmót 2014, where he got 8.71 in total and 8.93 for ridden abilities. On Landsmót 2016 he improved his marks even more and won the class of 7 years and older stallions, with a total of 8.82 and got no less than 9.09 for ridden abilities.#horsesoficeland
