As much as I love and have loved the ocean, it used to be a place of fear for me. Fear of open water. Swimming by myself was kept to a minimum time frame and I pretty much never felt comfortable dipping in past my waste if was alone.
Surprisingly, climbing helped me face my fear of open water. While I still get totally freaked out by certain tall climbs, I know I've come a long way. Hiking near cliffs more than 10ft down gave me the jeebies in the past. Over the years I've done some pretty sketchy stuff. But I was only able to push past the fear because I KEPT DOING IT. It really is the ONLY way to get over a fear. You have to keep proving to yourself that you will survive through it. And that pretty much applies to every aspect in life.
Now, I fearlessly crave my ocean swims and river dips.
Don't let fear keep you from going after something you desire or dream of. There's no second chances at life, no do-overs, and certainly no "in my next life". This is your life! #liveitup #loveitup #fear
