Introducing poised prospect #6 @honey_d23
Dijon Kirkland is a native of Washington, DC. She started her training as a dancer at the age of 11, and went on to attend the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. After high school she attended Point Park University, where she received a Bachelors degree in Dance with a concentration in Modern Dance, as well as a minor in History. -
Upon graduating, Dijon danced and toured with several companies before joining the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company 2nd company (DCDC2.) She spent two seasons with DCDC2 working with several known choreographers. In 2015, Dijon joined the Cleveland Cavalier Girls which is a precision dance team for the Cleveland Cavaliers. She currently is still apart of the Cavalier Girls, and enjoys every moment of it. Dijon is also a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. Her philosophy is “Art if Life.” -
While dance performance has taken me in many different directions, I would like to transition into instructing others in the art form. I’m very passionate about dance, and I would love to share that. -
The greatest challenge I’ve faced would have to be stereotypes about how a dancers body should look. I’ve managed to defy the odds, and make my body work for me. Daily, I have a workout and nutrition regimen, as well as participating in several dance classes that include hip hop, jazz, and contemporary dance. I get a lot of motivation to continue from my colleagues who are pursuing similar careers and prospering. -
To any youth looking to pursue a dance career, just know that hard work and dedication sounds cliche, but it’s honestly the key. If you love something, you must dedicate your life to doing it as best as possible. Research your talent, and constantly want to learn more!
