Why?
.
Mountains are majestic and beautiful. When standing at the top, it takes our breath away to look over God’s creation, and be in awe of His sovereignty and goodness. There’s a sense of peace. Many people escape to the mountains to feel God’s presence and pray.
.
But, we each have mountains that we need to leave throughout our lives- mountains known as COMFORT ZONES. It’s a place where God has taken us to serve in and grow, but God needs us elsewhere now.
.
In Deuteronomy 1:6-7, God said to Moses, “...You have stayed long enough at this mountain. Break camp and advance into the hill country...”
.
The Israelites had all they needed physically while at the mountain, and they were becoming too comfortable spiritually. God was not interested in their comfort. He was interested in growing their hearts, and that’s His interest for us today. The mountain wasn’t bad, but there was something BETTER waiting for the Israelites. But it required them to step out of their comfort zone. They needed to leave the mountain- the obstacle that kept them from advancing.

We are creatures of comfort. We don’t like change too often. However, when we stay comfortable and we’re not producing fruit for God, we dull ourselves spiritually and emotionally.
.
Look at your exercise program for example. When you started exercising, you saw your muscles grow. But over time, the same exercise was not effective. The muscles were not growing, and needed a new and different exercise to make them grow.
.
God wants us to always be growing in Him. It requires that we seek His mind, and rely on Him at all times. We can then faithfully and boldly step into challenges with assurance that God will not let us go. And when we take the decision to step out of our comfort zone- no matter how big or small, God will allow exciting things to happen in our lives.

You may have grown up on peanut butters such as JIF, Peter Pan, and Skippy. But are they good for you?

Let’s discuss.
Nut butters can be healthy and made from one nut or several nuts, such as peanut, almond, cashew, walnut, etc.
.
When the oil is sitting on top of the butter, simply turn the jar upside down and store in the refrigerator. The result will look like the photo above, without any stirring!
.
Making your own nut butter is best. Since you’re in control of the ingredients, it’s healthiest and can be more economical than store bought brands.
.
If you don’t have time to make your own, look for butters in the store that simply have the nuts. Stay clear from the no-stir butters that contain hydrogenated oils. Those oils are used to keep the butters on the shelf longer. Partially hydrogenated oils contain trans fat, which negatively affect cholesterol and heart health. Fully hydrogenated oils are supposedly better because there is no trans fat. However, it’s unclear if food manufacturers are mixing fully hydrogenated and vegetable oils together, to get an oil that acts like a partially hydrogenated oil without the trans fat.
Soybean oil is almost always hydrogenated (see photo). AVOID any vegetable oil, and any fully or partially hydrogenated oil. In short, these oils are not healthy.

Also be careful of palm oil. This is used to alleviate stirring, but if it’s not organic nor farmed responsibly, its a problem. Harvesting palm oil has resulted in deforestation, and animals have lost their homes. Also, there have been human rights violations with the workers. However, there are companies that harvest the palm oil ethically. I personally won’t buy nut butters with palm oil. It’s too controversial. Besides, I don’t need a refined, extracted oil in my nut butter anyway. I also look for non-GMO and organic.

Also be aware of high sodium and high sugar. There are better brands with 0-3 grams of sugar per serving, and the sodium is under 100g per serving.

It’s very important to eat more organic fresh/frozen fruits and vegetables daily. As we are the creation of God, so too are fruit and vegetables. He lovingly gave us these for food, enjoyment, and for preventative/healing medicine.

With rising stress, pollution, processed foods, and toxic elements that we are exposed to daily, it is causing us sickness. Eating more greens and fruits can help keep us healthy from the inside out.

Every bunny should love “ugly” produce (i.e. produce with personality)! Approximately 30% of fruits and vegetables are wasted because of unnecessary cosmetic standards that large grocers and produce marketing associations put on farmers. These standards are no indicator of taste, shelf-life, quality or nutrition. In the U.S. each year, 60 million tons of ugly produce are destroyed, worth $165 billion. And worldwide, tons of billions of ugly produce are wasted, which could be feeding the 800 million hungry.

I picked up this sweet potato at Whole Foods. They now sell ugly produce which can be 20% lower in price than their regular produce, and absolutely identical in taste and quality. The BEAUTY is that farmers are willing to sell to grocers for less, as opposed to dumping their produce and making no money. In turn, this helps families and those who can’t afford organic or other higher priced produce. Everyone wins! This was made possible through the efforts of @uglyfruitandveg and @imperfectproduce.

@harvestcrops is a 501(c)(3) that gleans unpicked oranges, lemons, and avocados from resident fruit trees. The fruit is then donated to local food banks and pantries. This org is always looking for volunteers to help pick for an hour or two. It’s a ton of fun, and you can take home a sack of fruit if you like.
