@holly_viola Thank you to everyone who messaged me yesterday about my post!! I am so excited to know about the #safezoneproject and I encourage you to also learn, share, and create your own safe zone! People shouldn't be afraid to live their lives! If I can be just one more person showing unconditional support, then I am happy! If I can encourage another person to also show their support too, then I am ecstatic!! #loveislove

@holly_viola **SUGGESTIONS NEEDED**
Hi all! My question is: what is the most universal symbol for support and acceptance of the #LGTBQ community?? Is it the rainbow🌈 ? Where do I get something like that?? I already have one of the equal sign stickers from @humanrightscampaign 😍 I want to make sure every student of mine knows my home studio is a safe place and I will never judge them!! What can I display to best show I accept EVERYONE!! πŸ’™πŸ’šπŸ’›πŸ’œβ€οΈ Suggestions please!! πŸ‘¨β€β€οΈβ€πŸ’‹β€πŸ‘¨πŸ’πŸ‘©β€β€οΈβ€πŸ’‹β€πŸ‘©

@holly_viola Sometimes you are the light shining brightly, and sometimes you are the mirror reflecting someone else's light. Both are very good things to be πŸ’•

@holly_viola I'm siiiiiiiicccckkkk 😭😭😭 I am the biggest baby when I get sick. But I still managed to do a few errands and now my goals for the rest of the day include getting some practicing in and hopefully breathing through my nose. I thought if I drank my tea in a fancy cup it might make me feel better. Sorry to all my students that I've had to cancel on!! I don't want to share my germs πŸ€’πŸ˜·πŸ€•

@holly_viola Who practiced sight reading today?? πŸ™‹β€β™‚οΈπŸ™‹β€β™€οΈπŸ™Œ It's an important skill that you can actually practice and get better at! I'm currently using my newly acquired Wohlfahrt vol 2 as both warm up and sight reading material! So I want to involve you guys in my #SIGHTREADINGCHALLENGE πŸ† Go check my story for excerpts you can sight read!! (give me a sec to load them after I post this πŸ˜„) I'm only using excerpts because, I don't know, probably copyrights πŸ˜… And for today it's only alto clef excerpts because, you know β™₯️Violaβ™₯️! There will be three excerpts in increasing difficulty and they are all from the progressive duets/trios series that I am completely obsessed with! Go check them out! Have fun!
*you can screen shot them if they are too small and turn your phone sideways to see better, or put on a larger screen.

@holly_viola It's officially β˜€οΈSUMMERβ˜€οΈ No school, no alarms, no projects! Yes vacations, yes sunshine, yes pool time!! πŸ’› Technically summer started yesterday but I had two sick boys. They seem to be a bit better today so maybe it was just allergies? The 🌞 is shining here and it's gorgeous outside! I hope the sun is shining brightly where you are and you get to have some time outside! Remember to enjoy your music today πŸ’›πŸ’›πŸ’›

@holly_viola I wanted to say THANK YOU to all of you! I have been having such a wonderful experience with @instagram lately because so many of you have reached out with such nice words and stories (to me and others)! I love hearing about your musical journeys and I consider it an honor to help you with your struggles and questions! β™₯️ I love seeing the support you are giving each other musically and personally within our community and every story like that makes me smile SO MUCH!!! You might think no one is noticing, but I am!! There are so many ways social media can make us feel awful and yet I'm seeing so much positivity and genuine care everywhere I look here 😍 Please keep it up! Don't be afraid to like a comment someone else made, or to make your own comment. Post your music! We all know it's not about perfection and I think you'll be surprised by the feedback you get! I was TERRIFIED to post my playing! For so. many. reasons. 🀀 But I'm so glad I did and hope to post more! Do me a favor today and promise to say one nice thing to someone (on instagram or in your life). Making other people smile makes us happy too πŸ˜„

Eagle eyed followers will notice this is an old photo, from before I had my beautiful @luxitune tuner. It's still a beautiful photo of my beautiful Viola 🎻β™₯️ I really wanted to say 'thank you' to you all but I've got a sick baby so I needed to do a quick post today. Hope you'll forgive me πŸ˜™πŸ˜™

Should you take lessons over the summer? The short answer is: yes. The long answer is: DEFINITELY YES! πŸ˜‰ Ok, I joke, but yes you really should keep up your lessons over the summer (or start!) and I'll tell you why! >>>The first very basic reason, is accountability. Even with vacations and extra summer activities, having a teacher you'll need to play for will at the very least force you to keep playing and practicing. And that's a good thing! I can't tell you how many times I've heard complaints from kids who didn't get the seat they wanted or didn't get into the ensemble they wanted or flubbed their audition. But when you ask when the last time they touched an instrument was they'll say three months ago!? It's not rocket science! If you don't keep up with a skill, you will LOSE that skill! >>>My second reason is that summer is the PERFECT time to work on a big new concept like learning vibrato (or shifting, articulation, correcting technique, etc!)!! You don't have the typical distractions of homework and after school activities and tests. Even when families go on multiple vacations I find that my summer students actually put in more effort and grow faster over the few summer months! Taking three months to learn something new seems like much less time when you can waltz back into school with great vibrato instead of muddling through some wonky sounding vibrato for the better part of the school year while you try to learn school repertoire, festival rep, ensemble rep and lesson and recital rep all at once! >>>And the third reason (probably my favorite 😜) is that summer is when your teacher can actually work with you on what THEY think you need! I LOVE LOVE LOVE my students! And I have a short term and long term plan carefully crafted for each one of them! But I often have to put what I want on hold to help them learn stuff for school. Don't get me wrong, I think having opportunities like festivals and school orchestras are amazing and frankly the reason we do this! Playing with others is THE WHOLE POINT!! But I bet your teacher also has some things they'd love to work on uninterrupted with you 😊 >>>So yes, take lessons over the summer! β€’
