Day 5: Part of the geothermal energy facility near Volcano Krafla. It was so snowy this day that we had to park down below and hike in whiteout conditions to the top. It was cold and fun even though the lake at the top was frozen!
Day 2: Hiking and sightseeing around South Iceland. This is a photo inside the US Navy DC plane that crashed on the black beach at Sólheimasandur in 1973. It might be hard to believe, but nobody was injured and they crashed because the pilot accidentally switched over to the wrong fuel tank!
Day 4: Staircase to Páskahellir Cave (behind me from the vantage point of this photo) in Neskaupstaður
Although I held tightly onto the hand rails, I nearly slipped down all the stairs in this photo! Luckily I caught myself quickly and it was funny to laugh about. I enjoyed listening to the stones rolling in and out with the tide and seeing a rainbow reflected off the waterfalls in front of the cave. I found many impressive geodes and saw a couple seals. I can't believe we were so lucky to be the only ones at the cave!🌈🍀 Thanks to our Airbnb host for the great suggestion before we left Neskaupstaður for Dettifoss. 👍
