Dudhsagar is India’s 5th tallest waterfall, and a sight to behold. Located in the Goa-Karnataka border, Dudhsagar falls is inside the Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary and the Mollem National Park, at a distance of 47 kilometers from Margao. The hills of the Western Ghats, the surrounding deciduous forest, and the rushing stream of water falling from a height of 1020 feet or 310 meters, makes Dudhsagar falls a must-visit.
Dudhsagar literally means “sea of milk”, in reference to the milky white water of the Mandovi River that falls steeply over the cliff, and then travels west to meet the Arabian Sea near Panaji. As the water comes roaring down the cliff, it creates an illusion of a sea of milk falling from the top, and thus the name. This is actually a four-tiered waterfall, but only a couple of them can be seen, unless you reach one the viewpoints. The average width of the waterfall is 100 feet or 30 meters.
Dudhsagar falls is inside the Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary and the Mollem National Park, a part of the Western Ghats. Wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers will love it here. The flora and fauna is rich. You have a chance to see wild dogs, wild boar, barking deer, flying squirrel, spotted deer, mouse deer, civet, gaur, pangolin, porcupine, sambar, and even the occasional black panther, leopard, and the Bengal tiger.
