Repost from @reconnectingart Heba Abed (@hebaabed_art ) is a Saudi artist and designer. She holds a master degree in fine art and is currently working as a Visual Arts Program manager. She has exhibited at the Islamic Art Festival at the Sharjah Museum, Misk Art Main Gallery, the X Edition of the Florence Biennial, the RomArt Biennale 2015, the 55th Venice Biennale 2013 as part of the collateral exhibition Rhizome, and at Art Weeks in Jeddah. By playing with optical illusions, Abed comments on the social impairments experienced within contemporary society. “Scotoma”, or blind spot, describes defective vision, and Abed uses the term to address an overlooked element in her society, specifically the loss of the legacy of Arabic, which is at risk to be lost to “Franco” Arabic. She is also keen on highlighting the neglected feminist arguments in her society.
