A common approach I use with patients when making lifestyle and nutritional changes is figuring out the amount of change they can make with near 100% certainty. Note, I said near. No one needs to be perfect.⠀

If you think you can get five servings of fruit and vegetables per day 60 to 70% of the time, but can guarantee you can get two servings of vegetables 98-100% of the time, you are better off getting the two servings consistently so you can build a pattern. It will be much easier and you will be able to work up to the four to five servings of vegetables per day consistently much quicker by starting out with something you can be consistent with as opposed to inconsistent.⠀

If you are struggling with being consistent with a change you're trying to make in your life, scale back that change until you can be consistent, and you'll find your results will be very different.⠀

Once it becomes a habit and you have control over this habit, then you can start to apply the 80:20 rule, where 80% of the time you choose to follow the habits that you know improve your health and longevity, and 20% of the time you choose to have a bit more fun.

Remember before you start any push-ups you should:
✅ Push you chest away from the floor
✅Draw your shoulder blades together and down
✅ Pull your chin in/make sure your head is in line with your spine with a neutral focus (not looking forward)
✅ Pull your ribs together and down
✅ Tuck you pelvis (to get to neutral)
💪🏼Thennnnnnnnnn you can start your push-ups.
🚨If this is too hard, modify with your knees on the floor but try to keep your shoulder, hip and knee in proper alignment!!

My ultimate favorite movement entails use of my own body weight! And notice how these can be done using your sofa!! I have included the use of bent knees as a modification in order to lighten the impact on the wrists. .
Tips:
✔️Roll the shoulders back and down
✔️Hands should be parallel with shoulders ✔️When flexing the elbows, think of pointing them toward each other
✔️Go as deep as you can without your traps lifting toward your ears
✔️And of course keep your abdominals engaged and ribcage closed!
✔️Keep pelvis neutral and hip flexors relaxed. .

Here’s a variation on yesterday’s exercise! I would not recommend this version for everyone- so if your shoulders are really tight and/or if your wrists don’t like a lot of pressure in them you should start with @pilateswithnrg ’s version of this exercise!

Real talk- this exercise provides so many more benefits than just building glute strength! Pilates Bridging, aka Pelvic Curl, is such a great exercise for working on hip extension (glutes, hamstrings), core, and spinal mobility through “spinal articulation”.
.
Make sure you draw your abdominals in before you start, tucking your pelvis and then keep you ribs and hips (front) drawing together as you push down into your heels to life your hips up.
.
Today’s variation has a band around the knees to help work on glute med./hip abductor strength.

Sunday Funday- Video 1 of 2: Single Leg Balance
.
Today we’re having a little fun with single leg balance variations! Start out on a hard surface before progressing to an uneven surface and try things like:
💪🏼 move your arm(s)
🦵🏼 move your free leg
👀 change your focus
🙈 close your eyes
.
Once you’ve got that down try progressing to an uneven surface like a bosu ball:
🔵 Variation 1: Stand on the dome
🔵 Variation 2: Stand on the flat surface & hold for 30 sec to 1 minute
🔵 Variation 3: Stand on the flat surface & make a large, slow and controlled circle with the bosu ball- clockwise AND counter clockwise*

Why you ask? Not because you should feel guilty about a day of indulging with friends and family, but because you’ll feel better after! 😜

Feeling a little fatigued/out of sync? Well you’re probably out of your normal routine- and well, that’s normal! The best way to get out of your funk is to get back to your normal healthy eating and sleeping routine, oh and drink A LOT of water (since most clients I know don’t drink enough). A SIMPLE way to calculate how much water to drink? 1/2 your body weight in lbs. in water. .
Today’s move: plank jacks.
💪🏼 Try 5 sets of 20 if you’re feeling ambitious
💪🏼 Modify by doing plank alt. taps and/or take it to your elbows
💪🏼 Tag your friend and tell em “Stop. Drop. And gimme 20”
