The 'cabinet of curiosity' displays a collection of curios that play on the unique history of Inchcolm House, a former hospital. #ovolohotels #ovoloinchcolm #popculture #memorabilia

The Science Place is the instantly recognisable 'home of science' at @jamescookuniversity's Townsville campus, bringing STEM activities together in one place. The building has Australia’s first LEED Gold rating for an education building, and has been awarded the Jennifer Taylor Award for Educational Architecture and a Sustainable Architecture Award at the Australian Institute of Architects Queensland State Awards, where the jury called it "both exciting and nurturing". #educationdesign #leed #designawards

Congratulations to HASSELL Fellow Professor Ken Maher who has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in the 2018 Queen’s Birthday Honours list for “distinguished service to architecture and landscape design, particularly through urban infrastructure projects, and to environmental sustainability in planning.” #awards #AO #orderofaustralia #design #sustainability #congratulations

For #IWD2018 we asked our talented female designers what #pressforprogress means to them. "I'm extremely proud that I can play a role as a senior woman in the practice demonstrating my ideals and values. I would like to make it apparent that there's a path to leadership or travel, working in other disciplines or working in other sectors if you aspire to do so and you are both tenacious and brave. As a mother of three daughters, I do feel a sense of personal obligation to make it clear both within the practice and for my children that it is possible to be a woman in leadership with a family and play a meaningful role in all aspects of your life. I believe we need to be pressing for rapid change in the industry, and perhaps for change to be a bit more overt. As a design community we must work a lot harder, with intention, for true equity (and all that carries with it) at a much faster rate. It’s important that we don’t just talk about it on one day a year. This is a constant pursuit." Kirsti Simpson, Principal.

Return to 1954: Cheney's Motor Showroom, South Melbourne. Sydney Cheney set up the Australian motor industry's first assembly line in this industrial area, which was developed in the 1990s into the high-rise residential, commercial and cultural precinct known as Southbank. #since1938 #HASSELLhistory #australianarchitecture

The @hassellplus @resilientbayarea proposal focuses on reconnecting San Mateo County to San Francisco Bay. It is all about designing for water, living with water, and the immense social potential that waterfront places offer communities when they are properly connected to them. #design #urbandesign #sanfrancisco #bayarea #resilientbydesign

The Science Gallery looks outward and invites people in, with a central volume that draws together key movement patterns into and through the space. A series of flexible spaces has been designed for an ever-changing calendar of exhibitions, informal learning activities and events. #learningdesign #educationdesign #modelmaking #physicalmodel

For #IWD2018 we asked our talented female designers what #pressforprogress means to them. "Definitely the architectural industry has a huge reputation for being a bit of a boy's club and unfortunately I have experienced and been exposed to that, but never here at work. HASSELL is awesome in the fact that there's so many women in leadership positions, they are pushing for women to have a voice and so it does feel like there are people looking out for you as a younger female designer. It's really important to take that up and make sure you are heard." Ella Marmion, Graduate of Architecture.
