AS WE GET OLDER - TAKE A MOMENT
I recently gave a short talk on aging and training. And I used this car analogy to illustrate the changes and differences of then and now....Two weeks ago. I was in London. Picked up this brand new Volvo from a rental company at Gatwick airport. Only had ten miles on it ! Had all the whistles and bells. Didn't know what they did ! Proximity alerts, lane movement, paddle shifters, seat warmers, folding mirrors, reverse cameras, GPS etc the list of functions were endless !!! It was brand new, shiny, sexy looking, no damage, sleek, fast, low miles, no wear and tear, could drive for hours, find it's way, comfortable, reliable and safe. Just like me/us when were younger lol !!!! The other photo is my old Suburu Outback. Loads of miles, not sexy, torn seats, engine light has been on for 26 months (needs 5 sensors), cruise control doesn't work, more dings and dents then a car in Ramot, steel screws keeping the external panels on, the electrical sockets don't work, have to change at least one light bulb every 4 weeks, has a hard time going up hills, great on gas, reliable and both my bikes fit in the back ❤ What's the real difference ??? I didn't really feel comfortable in the "new" car. Too much to learn and fumbling my way around. My "old" car, I love driving Su Su. Grown into that car over the years. It's slow, steady, reliable, take few licks and kicks, just keeps on running even if it's not too fast, but a tough old car and keeps on going forward !
MY HUMBLE CONCLUSION
1)Don't compare yourself to others or your younger self. That's not who you are.
2) Accept the changes in yourself as you get older. Be more patient and understanding with yourself and others.
3) Keep being creative, learning new skills, be compassionate and kind, make new friends, reach out and cherish old ones, challenge yourself, no expectations, lose attachment, travel more, tell the people you care about everyday that they are loved, love who you are today ❤
Much love and aloha
