HARDY  Essays, interviews, artwork, and photography, advocating for social justice and LGBTQ+ visibility. Vol 3 is out now!

Time flies (and so does @enrique.jesus.hernandez) when you’re fluid AF. We are still so in awe of the amazing folks involved with our #thefutureisfluid event. Special thanks to @mxrunko for the performance videos/screen grabs, @zach_stahl_ for the sexy party pics, and @residentdtla for giving us a space in this increasingly dark world to shine our queer light. To everyone who attended, and especially to the artists and performers: you are seen, you are heard, you are loved. ❤️🌈 #hardyzine #queerart #fbf

“IF I DIE OF AIDS - FORGET BURIAL - JUST DROP MY BODY ON THE STEPS OF THE F.D.A.,” jacket worn by David Wojnarowicz, ACT UP demonstration, Food and Drug Administration, Washington, D.C., 1988. Photo by Bill Dobbs.
David Wojnarowicz was an American painter, photographer, writer, filmmaker, performance artist, and AIDS activist.
For Vol 2 of HARDY, we interviewed Karen Ocamb, an icon of gay journalism who got her start covering the ACT UP protests of 1988, and spoke about her passionate commitment to reporting on the HIV/AIDS crisis over the past tree decades.

“Haring was one of the first to present homosexuality in a politically progressive way. With the rise of AIDS, he aimed to turn the message about the disease outward by presenting it through the joint lenses of political power, religious institutionalism, and anti-sexual morals.” In 1987, he wrote: “I don't know if I have five months or five years, but I know my days are numbered. This is why my activities and projects are so important now. To do as much as possible as quickly as possible." Keith Haring, “Cockfight” (1985) #keithharing #worldaidsday #actupfightaids #silenceequalsdeath

In addition to free shipping on all orders in the USA, we’re also offering a special limited time bundle of all three current volumes of HARDY, at a 10% discount, with a free “The Future Is Fluid” wristband as a gift with purchase! Our “Fluid” wristbands are also being sold individually for $2 each, with $1 from each sale donated to the National Center for Transgender Equality Action Fund. “As gay people, we get to choose our families, and my family includes millions of brave [people] across this country and around the world. Don’t fuck with my family.” – RuPaul, June 25, 2016.

.
Note: RuPaul has famously noted his ambivalence about gender pronouns, saying, "You can call me he. You can call me she. You can call me Regis and Kathie Lee; I don’t care! Just as long as you call me." We use “he/him/his” here.
.
RuPaul Charles, who turns fifty-seven today, is an American drag queen, actor, model, recording artist, author, and television personality. After moving to Atlanta as a fifteen-year-old to study performing arts, Ru spent much of the 1980s performing in Atlanta clubs; in 1989, he received his first national exposure as a dancer in the music video for The B-52’s “Love Shack.”
.
In 1993, Ru released “Supermodel of the World” (one of his ten albums), a dance/house record that included the hugely popular single “Supermodel (You Better Work)”; that same year, he recorded the hit duet “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” with Elton John.
.
From there, RuPaul signed a modeling contract with MAC Cosmetics, released his autobiography (“Lettin’ It All Hang Out”), guest-starred on various television shows, and hosted a talk show, “The RuPaul Show,” on VH1.
.
In 2008, RuPaul launched “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” an immensely successful franchise that has earned its host GLAAD Media Awards and an Emmy.
.
Throughout his career, RuPaul has been outspoken on issues related to queer equality, and he has been instrumental in fostering an ongoing conversation about the roles of race, gender, and “masculinity” within the queer community.
.
RuPaul and Georges LeBar, who have been together for over twenty years, were married in early 2017. #lgbthistory #HavePrideInHistory #Resist #RuPaul

In addition to the incredible performers and artists that we’ve already announced, there are many other talented LGBTQ folks participating in our afternoon festivities on Sunday, including: a gender-fluid clothing pop-up, an LA-based grassroots social justice nonprofit, a tarot reader, a non-binary art collective, trans-positive t-shirts, stickers, buttons, and more! Come join us this Sunday 11/19 from 2pm-8pm for all things queer! All are welcome. 🖤❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 #thefutureisfluid #hardyzine
