My menstrual cycle-based macro experiment continues. It’s been really fascinating. Starting this past Friday, I started needing more food, more fat, and had distinct cravings for things. I ate KBBQ smothered in sesame oil, I kept wanting spinach, I had tuna poke with sesame oil and sesame seeds, a lot of peanut butter, protein cakes made with my vegan Orgain protein over my typical whey, roast turkey deli meat and fresh mozzarella as snacks...all the while feeling anxious and off kilter. Well, I took a look at my chart this morning and it said I probably needed more calories, more fat, and more tryptophan to boost my serotonin at this point in my cycle. What are some top trytophan foods? Nuts and seeds, particularly sesame seeds, beans (Orgain is pea protein based), spinach, mozzarella cheese, eggs, turkey, and meat. I jumped on the treadmill before I completely lost it tonight (either my sanity or my patience at my family). Did 45 minutes of run/walking. I blew 3x a week this past week (although I think I still meet that metric in terms of averaged workouts for the year to date), but life happens. I just need to make sure I get back on the horse. I am (and have been) struggling against my anxiety/depression/binge monster this weekend, big time. I was already under a lot of strain, but then my son’s ER visit pushed me over the edge. I haven’t worked out in a few days and I can’t seem to really shake the cobwebs. Food is both disinteresting to me right now (as in nothing particularly sounds good), but also all I think about (want. to. binge.)
