Often called the “First Lady of Song,” Ella Fitzgerald was born on this day in 1917. She got her big break while performing at #Harlem’s #ApolloTheater at the age of 17 in 1934. Throughout her lifetime she was the recipient of many awards, including 13 Grammy Awards (one for lifetime achievement), and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Fun fact: She lived right next door to my great aunt.
The city of #NewOrleans finally removes the first of four symbolic structures that represent what many view as glorifications of Confederate principles, racism and divisive historical occasions. The removal was done by workers in bullet proof vests, in the middle of the night, due to serious threats and actions from citizens not in agreement with the removals. Via @time
This makes us sad. Allegedly, #JesseWilliams and his wife, Aryn Drake-Lee, are divorcing. Sources close to the couple say the "#GreysAnatomy" star and wife of almost 5 years filed for divorce last week ... it's unclear who filed, but it's allegedly amicable.
