HFW is spending their Valentine's Day enjoying a glass of Rosè paired alongside Rose marshmallows by our very own Chef @hfw_kitchen How are you celebrating your V-day?

Though the vines may be going to sleep, winter is also the time of year that the entire ecosystem around them comes awake and alive: cover crop is starting to sprout in the vineyards, birds are chirping, the cows and goats are noshing on fresh grass, and we are all feeling very thankful for the rain! It's a magical time of year on the farm πŸŒ§πŸŒ±πŸŒπŸŒΏπŸ‚πŸ“πŸŒ„

For those who were here on Saturday night, here's a quick reminder. Thanks so much for your support- Lighting of the Vines at Hamel Family Wines raised $16,600 for the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation. Since our vines don't hold anymore grape clusters, we might as well pick our olives, send them on their way to McEvoy Ranch to be milled, and put the tress to sleep for the winter months.

Burying cow horns filled with manure our two sweet πŸ‚πŸ‚, Fannie and Uli, provided. Over the winter months while the soils are most active, the manure will ferment and become a sweet-smelling dark and rich fertilizer, also known as Biodynamic preparation 500 - a basis for soil fertility. In the spring we will mix it with water and spray it on our vineyards to enliven the soils, enhance the rooting system of our vines, and increase soil microbial activity and water retention so we don't have to irrigate as much!πŸŒ±πŸŒΏπŸŒπŸ›πŸ’¦ #biodynamicfarming

We couldn't be more excited to pair our wines with Chef Jennifer Puccio, Chef Emily Luchetti and Chef Jonathan Waxman at the Beard House tonight!
