It means the world to us to hear from you all. We always knew we were supported by many, but this has really brought that home to each and every one of us. We are still in the thick of things here in real time, but first and foremost, we are all safe and sound.
HFW was “attacked” on three sides by the fire Tuesday night, yesterday and last night. Thanks to the great work of three firefighters in particular, a local general engineering contracting firm volunteering their time (and their bulldozers) and then the firefighter “cavalry” at 1:00 a.m. last night, to date all of our buildings remain untouched by fire. However, we have serious burns on the property, a “new” fire break (that passed the test last night), landscaping issues, some charred and downed vines, etc.—all fixable things in the near and intermediate term.
Unfortunately, we are not in the clear yet—the weather is not cooperating—more wind on its way supposedly, and so we are not declaring “peace with honor” yet. Many of our neighbors, fellow wineries, etc. have experienced much more devastation than we’ve experienced, and so our thoughts and prayers go out to all who have been impacted. It will be a long time before the community gets back to its pre-Sunday night condition, but ours is a determined community, and we have no doubt that it will roar back even stronger than before.
While we are still in the thick of things, it is hard for us to concentrate on much of anything else. We also feel a bit helpless—we’ve taken all of the appropriate precautions, but if the wind kicks up again, all bets are off. Thank you all so much for all of your support. We all are empowered with the knowledge of all the love, positive thoughts, support, etc. coming our way.
