Hal Koerner  i came from the west virginia coal mines, and the rocky mountains, and the western skies athlete for the north face

Just holding down the fort this morning, catching up on some weekend results and answering questions like, "Did you shrink?"

Contrary to what many might believe, when I met my wife our first date wasn't on a trail, running, but on a rock wall, climbing. I joked then that it wouldn't be so tragic if I was a bad belayer, cause we'd only known each other a couple days. Truth is, that wall helped build a 13 year relationship that has spawned two little clones. Well, and my ability to eat two entrees for dinner later that night.
Walls are meant for climbing.
The North Face is donating $1 million to The Trust for Public Land to help build public climbing walls in U.S. communities. Visit thenorthface.com/walls to learn more. #ClimbWalls.

This race just turned 40, but couldn't beat me as I FINALLY claimed a masters title. Second only to the @pikespeakmarathon in terms of elevation change, I should have know better than to bring my 20lb waist pack. Thanks to @josephchick for a great race and the #AWTA for donating proceeds of this nonprofit to the Ashland High track resurfacing effort! @thenorthface @roguevalleyrunners

Trying to keep a cool head on the eve of the 40th annual Mt Ashland Hill Climb Run

This will be my 9th finish, almost 60,000ft of climbing over the years. Not may races can claim that type of change over such a "short" distance

And yes, my butt is still this flat

I feel I've done my job when they start walking the downhills.

Lots of reflection.

Finally earning their keep.

Sunshine almost always makes me high.

I don't want to get to deep on you but, water = life.

Sharing some early miles with @the_fruitarian at the Vermont 100 this past weekend.
Almost as beautiful as it is deceptively hard, I earned every bit of my 20 hours in the Green Mountains.
After 11 hours, my body's tolerance for running began to fade. I realized that although I didn't want to endure 10 hours of walking, I needed to.
I had not finished a hundred in almost two years, something that defined my identity not all that long ago. It was difficult to struggle and suffer all day, but I am reminded of what I was told at the last aid station by a volunteer when I asked about the remaining mileage, "Is it up or down?" >
"It's the @vermont100." >
