On Monday, March 19 my cousin Paviter was brutally murdered in Brampton. Paviter was only 21 and he had his entire big, bright, beautiful future ahead. This horror has shattered our family.
Paviter was incredibly kind, compassionate and hard-working. We’ve spent the last two weeks going through photos, and remembering our favourite Paviter stories. But what we didn’t realize is how many other lives he’d touched. He spent the last few years of his young life committed to doing Seva (selfless service) and helping others. This included donating toys to Sick Kids Hospital every Christmas, donating winter coats to the homeless and even paying an elderly man’s first and last month’s rent. As the days go on though, our dark reality is starting to sink in. He’s gone and my heart aches in pain. We’ll never be the same, I’ll never be the same.
Paviter fought 12 hard hours for his life after being rushed to a trauma center in Toronto. What began as an evening of frantic phone calls and hours of praying in the hospital ended in hurt that was beyond anything I could have ever imagined. Realizing that we’ll never see him again, that his parents, my Massi Ji and Massar ji, will never hold their son in their arms again, and that his three sisters have lost their little brother, is beyond heartbreak.
Every morning when I wake up, I have a brief second of hope when I think this is all an awful dream, but then I realize we’re actually living this nightmare.
Nothing will bring back my brother but I urge anyone with information to contact the police to ensure justice is served. The attack took place on March 19th between 5-6pm near Sandalwood and Torbram. Three have been arrested and charged, but more are still out there. The people who killed my brother have no regard for human life. They are still walking amongst us. This could’ve been anyone’s brother. Nothing will bring Paviter back but please help us ensure justice is served. I urge anyone with information or dash cam footage to contact Peel Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). #justiceforpaviter
