Macha Suzuki

About a year ago, after working at APU as as adjunct for 11 years, I finally had the chance to become a full time faculty member. I went through most of the application process which consisted of the application packet submission, an interview with the search committee, an interview with the full-time faculty of the department, and an interview with the dean. One week before my final interview with the president and the provost of APU, I received a phone call from the dean of the College of Music and the Arts stating that he had changed the position from a full-time renewable contract to a one year non-renewable appointment. I was devastated! I contemplated not accepting the position, but in the end I took the job hoping it would turn into something more. Needless to say I've had no choice but to continue to search for other "true" full-time positions that would ensure stability. This week I turned in my letter of resignation to APU.
I've always loved my students at APU. They are some of the most caring, loving, motivated, fun-loving people I know, and I cherish all my memories with them. I will miss them dearly! My colleagues in the Dept. of Art and Design at APU are some of my best friends. I will miss their commitment to excellence. I will miss working with them toward a common goal. I will miss their love and support.
However, I am happy to announce that I will be starting in the fall at Loyola Marymount University as Clinical Assistant Professor of Graphic Design. I'm excited for this opportunity, and I look forward to new relationships and influences as well as personal growth!

This was the last picture I took in Japan. Thanks for the memories. It's been real!!

We are leaving Japan tomorrow. What a great trip it has been! Thank you to all my friends and family who made it amazing!

Tokyo, I'm ready for you!

Thanks @lagunaartmuseum for the shoutout!! Repost・・・
🎯 This work by Macha Suzuki celebrates the effort of aiming at a target as opposed to success in hitting it. Rather than giving up with a single effort, the imaginary archer has made multiple attempts. All the arrows radiate from the outermost ring of the target; they have missed the bull’s-eye by a wide margin, but create a stunning visual effect all the same. The artist invites us to relate such images to experiences in our own lives and recognize the good in failure. This work is now on view.
