Some bike training footage from last night. I train hard both in the gym with weights and on the bike with cardio. By hard I’m talking HR at 180+ (over 95% of my max HR for several min. I’m not talking about an easy 60 min ride or stroll in the part. I’m talking pushing my cardio to the limit no different then if you had your most brutal leg day in the gym and I’m bike riding 5 days a week. On top of this I’m training 6 days a week in the gym my entire body (2 of which are leg days). I have kept my weight in the low 200’s for several month now. If I can do this then most certainly anyone can do moderate intensity cardio several days a week and still put on muscle. If you can’t you may need to rethink your training routine. Cardio is no going to kill your gains and you don’t need to bulk to the point of getting fat in order to put on muscle. If you stay in decent shape in the off season your contest prep is not only going to be much easier but your body will be a lot healthier. Bodybuilding does not mean body destroying so make sure that your health is a priority and not just winning your next show. If you can’t win while being healthy it’s not worth it. Just a few random pics from this morning. People ask me all the time if I’m bike riding in order to cut down for classic. The real answer is I’m bike riding because I like bike riding. I also weight lift because I like lifting weights. I also eat healthy because I like when I’m eating healthy. If you like what you do your very likely to keep doing it. So find your passion and go for it. If you don’t like eating healthy and you don’t like doing cardio and you don’t like lifting weights all the time then DON’T ENTER PHYSIQUE COMPETITIONS!!! You would think this is obvious but it’s not. A lot of people competing don’t even enjoy the process. If it’s not fun your not going to stick to it. FYI you’re not going to lose all your gains doing cardio and if you do it’s because your “gainz” were all fat and water and not actual muscle. Once you start dieting and start complaining that your “small” it’s because your off season filled with bulking did nothing more then add a bunch of fat and water onto your frame which you think is a lot of muscle. Well it’s not and you just spend the year convincing yourself that force feeding is just some hard core way to gain muscle when it’s really just an excuse you tell yourself to eat like shit and get fat because you like fast food and junk. If you want to eat junk just eat junk but don’t do it under the impression your going to add muscle by doing so. Went for a 92 km bike ride today. I left weighing 207.6 and came back weighing 199.6. I drank 2 bottles of water during the ride and still lost 8 lbs. Figured it was a good time to practice that vacuum pose seeing as the feedback was that I should use this pose. Still at it despite all the injuries. Not quite as much fun when you can’t go in and train the way you used to but it’s no excuse to give up on your passion. People will always look for an excuse to not go to the gym or a reason to not push themselves. I simply choose to do the opposite. I find a way to go and a reason to not miss. If you really like what your doing it’s not hard. It’s only hard when your training with extrinsic motivators rather then intrinsic. Unfortunately, you can’t just teach passion it comes from within. Hopefully all of you have something in life that makes you happy and that you are passionate about. If not try and find it. You all think hockey and football players get hurt all the time and are tough as nails. Cyclists are different animals. Crash break your knee cap racing down mountain and then finish the rest of the 60 km of that days race. They ride on avg. about 150 km a day for several hours each day at a pace most of us could only ride at for a minute. Simply unreal to think what they can do. It’s quite the sport. 6 foot 160 lbs is considered a muscled up cyclist. If your trying to stay lean it’s probably the best sport on earth. Most top level cyclists would easily out eat the most massive bodybuilders on the planet disputes the fact that they are so tiny and have hardly any fat. #tourdefrance #bike #ride
