W E B S I T E C O L O U R: did you know that colours show up differently on different screens πŸ€”? When you have printed materials, you can specify CMYK (#ColourShareScarlet is 0% Cyan, 85.9% Magenta, 100% Yellow and 0% Black), and expect to get an exact reproduction of your chosen colour scheme βœ…. With the web, colours are usually specified as RGB or a Hex value (#scarlet is #ff2400), but they will show up differently on different devices πŸ“². So when you're choosing the colours for your website, check them out on a variety of devices πŸ–₯, and don't get too hung up on exact shades. Read my blog for more website tips πŸ‘†, or get in touch for my expert advice πŸ“². .

What's more intriguing: a closed door or an open door πŸ€”? I'm a sucker for either, and, what I love about Instagram 😍, is that I now stop and take photos of doors that I used to just walk past. (What a fun travel companion I now am!!! πŸ˜‚) .

Here, #ColourShareScarlet ❀️ meets #doorsofinstagram πŸšͺ. These doors were in Lisbon, within a courtyard, possibly leading to a gallery - I could see some sculpture through the window, but maybe it was a someone's rather beautiful office? The #scarlet was certainly eye-catching, especially against the creamy stone. I could just imagine Audrey Hepburn opening the door, wearing a black and white dress, and sunglasses πŸ•Ά(obviously), looking quickly side to side, then running quickly to the left. No idea why. What do you imagine when you see this door❓

This weeks #ColourShare came to me (eventually) out of the blue (ironically πŸ˜‰). Must be imbibing the air of Stroud because this area was famous for its #Scarlet cloth πŸ’ƒπŸΏ. Technically, it is between orange and red on the colour wheel, apparently, so that's the shade I've chosen here, although I'd always thought of it as a very red red ❀️. It's also the name of one of my goddaughters, so is now synonymous with a cool and talented 17-year-old, rather than more traditional connotations...πŸ’‹β“. As ever, all shades and interpretations welcome ❀️- tag me and use the hashtag #ColourShareScarlet 😍. .

I don't know why, but peeling #ColourShareCream paint on French shutters is rather more attractive than peeling paint would be on our windows in London.....πŸ˜‚. And no, this isn't our second home, and I'm not there now, but it was rather lovely spending one night there earlier this month, imagining πŸ€”. .

Oh for smell-a-photo! Surely the sweetest smelling of all flowers - I can never resist moving in to inhale the scent of a rose whenever I see one. And when it's the delicate colour of melted ice cream.....πŸ’›πŸ’›πŸ’› Happy Saturday everyone. .

I love cream 😍. Really really love cream. It was an occasional treat, when I was young. One day, I spotted a glass jug of cream on the trolley, ready for lunch. I had this brainwave πŸ’‘that, if I found a straw, I could drink some cream without leaving a telltale sign around the spout. Genius, right πŸ€—??? I found a straw and drank some cream (not too much πŸ˜‰), thrilled with my success πŸŽ‰. But I hadn't noticed the telltale cream line left above the new lower level of cream, and, as I blushed instantaneously 😳 when my mum pointed this out and had to confess, I wasn't allowed cream with my pudding. 😰. Thankfully, this childhood trauma did not spoil my love of cream, and I really really really enjoyed smothering this bowl of fresh raspberries for #ColourShareCream πŸ˜‹.

This is not my puppy, this is not my carpet, and this is not my string. But, thankfully, all three are my pet (πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚) project #ColourShareCream. (It only took 27 photos to get this shot....) .

A #throwbackthursday for #ColourShareCream. This is my mum and her brother. It always hung on a wall in my childhood home, and then in my mum's last home, and I love it. It seems to be a photo that's been enhanced with pastel or maybe gouache - i don't actually know. An early, handmade filter, maybe... It would have been done towards the end of the 1930s, and is so evocative and charming. I love the fact that my mum looks rather unimpressed that she's been dressed to pose for a photo - she'd have been itching to get back in a scruffy skirt (guessing not shorts for a girl back then?) and go back outside on her bike. It's now come home with me. Precious memories. .

WEBSITE WISDOM: Make sure your website is easy to read πŸ‘€! If you can read this - great! But without my glasses, I can't 😩. When I visit a website on my mobile πŸ“²- and the majority of time on the web is now on phones - I'm immediately put off if I can't read basic details without squinting or reaching for my specs πŸ‘“. And it's not just font size - it's contrast too. A mid-grey font on a pale grey or white background is a struggle for anyone with sight issues . This emoji πŸ…±οΈ is much easier for me to read than πŸ”‘. βœ”οΈβœ”οΈβœ”οΈβœ”οΈβœ”οΈβœ”οΈβœ”οΈ
The accessibility of your site affects how you are ranked by search engines πŸ–₯ - the more accessible your site, the higher your ranking πŸ”. So look at your website from a range of perspectives, and always be generous with your font sizes πŸ™Œ. .
.
I'm thinking of offering a new service of Website Audit (but snappier title....πŸ˜‚), where I review your website and suggest tweaks and extra touches that make it look and work even better. What do you think? Would it be useful? .

And these teeny weeny scrabble tiles are today's #ColourShareCream - classic vintage colour combination with deep green (which are always nice and easy to read in real life πŸ˜‰).

Who invented Sweet and Salty Popcorn??? Sounds so wrong, but tastes soooooooo good. And it's #ColourShareCream-y too. .

I've allocated this week and next to do some painting (oil, not emulsion), and it's ages and ages since I last did any, so yesterday involved a lot of sitting around umm-ing and staring blankly, hence these profound ponderings on, and repeated eating of, Sweet n Salty. Booking time in advance is not necessarily the best way of getting back into painting as I don't feel especially inspired, but sometimes you just have to get on with it, don't you, and I knew that I had a quiet couple of weeks. Life/work has now got in the way of this plan for a creative retreat fortnight, but I have at least started the process of painting over bits of old paintings I'm not happy with, which is invariably my starting point. It's fun once I take the plunge and don't worry about destroying. Better to risk ruining a piece completely than settle for something I always frown at, in my book. I tend to re-work and re-work websites too, but at least I always have back-ups of those, so can retrace my steps if calamity strikes and the screen goes white 😱. .
.
.
May any destroying or creating you manage today be enjoyable. .

New week, new #ColourShare, and, after the acid #ColourShareLime of last week, what could be more comforting than #cream 🍦? Smooth, soft, silky, sophisticated, soothing - it's a very tactile colour, sensuous, with a touch of decadence. .
