We hope your weekend is as relaxed as this Northern Elephant Seal we spotted in the Bay this weekend!
Northern Elephant Seals (Miranda angustirostris) were once believed to be extinct from hunting in the late 1800'and their recovery to more than 100,000 a great good news story as they retake their range. Interesting to see this one in the shallows of Willapa Bay as they forage in the open ocean and feed at more than 3000 ft deep. Assuming this is the same one this will be the 3d year that our crews have seen this female (?) hanging out in the vicinity of the harbour seals that also populate the bay. Every day on the bay brings different experiences and wildlife and one of the reasons we are so privileged to be farming oysters in #willapabay.
Fyi this was taken with a 500mm telephoto and cropped.
