This is my 2nd anti-aging night routine. This one focuses on Acid Exfoliation. I usually do this routine 2 or 3 nights a week.
.
✔️1st cleanse: oil-based cleanser. (I pick one of 3 that I have on rotation): I love this #farmacy Green Clean cleanser for nights I don't want to have to use a wash cloth.
.
✔️2nd cleanse: #Glossier #MilkyJellyCleanser
.
✔️Ph-Adjusting Toner: I think a pH-adjusting toner is most useful in the mornings before using vit C, but I think it's also good to strategically use before some AHAs that you may feel aren't working to their full potential or if you use a cleanser above 4.5/5.0 pH. (It's good to see different viewpoints, so check out @roadtoglow for a different take on pH adjusting toners. 😊Bottom line is to find what works for your skin!) I have personally found that using pH adjusting toners have improved the efficacy of some of my products that were a bit disappointing before I started using it. I do NOT use this before strong AHAs bc that could be too harsh. But I will use it before I apply Good Genes since that has a lower acid concentration. I have a blog post on why I do this step and what toners I love if you want more info. #Mizon #DailyCleanToner is definitely a favorite.
.
✔️AHA: I will rotate between the various AHAs I have. If you are shopping around for different AHAs, check out my blog for a spreadsheet of almost 90 options at various price points and strengths & I have an infographic on the different types of AHAs 👍🏻I want to add a mandelic acid to the mix & some other AHAs but my bathroom cabinet is a bit full at the moment 😉
❣️Mask* AHA blend (Glycolic/Lactic/Tartaric/Citric) 👉#Deciem #TheOrdinary 30%AHA and 2% BHA : 18.8% free acid concentration (FAV)
❣️Glycolic acid 👉#Pixibeauty #OvernightGlowSerum : FAV=8.7%
❣️Lactic acid 👉#SundayRiley Good Genes : FAV=4.7%
.
✔️Treatment Mist: I have been loving the #Odacite Aloe + Immortelle Mist. Aloe is the first ingredient (my skin loves Aloe. It's so soothing!) & Helichrysum (aka Immortelle) is a fabulous anti-aging ingredient that is great for sensitive or oily skin (Bonus!)
.

Day 21 of the #MaySkinChallenge is #selfcaresunday .
I usually do a lot more self-criticizing than I do self-care. But I'm trying to be kinder to myself and, with that, take better care of myself. Here are some things that I do:
.
🍯 💆🏼I make sure to have a few products that force me to stop and give myself some much needed TLC. #MayLindstromSkin #HoneyMud was a splurge for me, but it has given me a morning ritual that has relaxed me and made me feel pampered. Blue Cocoon is another product that is so much more than just skincare to me. I would also love to own The Good Stuff Body Oil because that scent is just to die for and my arms and legs have never felt smoother than when I was using those samples (I spilled my one sample tube last night... so upsetting!)
.
🏋 I lift weights and make sure that I don't let long days at work be an excuse to not take time to workout.
.
🍾I drink Champagne on a Tuesday. 🥂 Meaning I don't save champagne for special occasions. 😊
.
🙅🏼🔎I do not own any magnifying mirrors. I avoid them at all costs because when I go near one the negative thoughts come rolling in.
.
👯👯I adore my nieces and nephew and living in a different state than them (for their entire life) has been one of the hardest things for me. So I have made a point to visit as much as I can. Seeing them recharges my spirit and is the best form of self-care.
.
💏Finally I married a man that supports me when I decide I need to get a massage for tight muscles from too much stress, microblading for embarrassing brows, or any other way that I decide to pamper myself. And he tells me I'm beautifully even when I'm feeling horribly ugly, so forcing myself to see myself through his eyes has also helped me do more self-care than self-criticizing.

#MaySkinChallenge #wishlist - I have a couple very specific items from a variety of brands that are on my list but for this post I wanted to focus on a MD-based brand I haven't used yet and I'm very interested in. I've been reading a lot more about #Zelens lately and I'm so intrigued by their products. I've been eyeing their Vitamin C, D and A drops for about 5 months now 😍but I never pull the trigger because I have other products in those categories that I like. But those products are now running low... sooo now might be the time to explore! 🙌🏻
.
The reason this brand (founded by Dr. Lens) really appeals to me is that they use science-backed ingredients and they conduct independent clinical testing (& publish their findings in peer-reviewed journals). 🤓🤗These products are pricey, but if they are pricey and Work, then I'm ok with that. 👍🏻
.
While on @zelensskincare website I came across some other products--aside from the drops--that I hadn't heard about and they REALLY piqued my interest:
.
❤️Youth concentrate supreme age-defying serum: This is packed with anti-aging peptides and a slow-release retinol. 👌🏻
.
❤️Intense Defense Antioxidant Serum: Has some amazing ingredients that I know and love as well as some ingredients that I haven't used yet...but they sound promising (e.g., Superoxide dismutase and Alpha-lipoic acid).
.
❤️Z Luminous - Brightening Serum: This sounds SUPER promising...Niacinamide, Resorcinol, Zinc-Glycine Complex, Phytic Acid, Bisabolo... so many great things!
.
❤️Transformer Instant Renewal Mask: I'm wondering if this could give the kind of well-known (and sought after) glow that #SundayRiley #goodgenes gives. It says it encourages skin renewal with immediately visible results. I'm all for sticking with a product and waiting for results...but who doesn't love IMMEDIATE results?! That is partly why I Love @sundayriley Good Genes. So that's why this mask is especially tempting! .
Have any of you tried some of these other Zelens' products? Let me know your thoughts!

I've fallen behind on the #mayskinchallenge but I'm hoping to catch up by combining Day 16 (anti-aging) & Day 18 (Balm).
.
This is 1 of 3 #AntiAging Routines that I do. This one focuses on prescription retinol, the other on acid exfoliation, and the 3rd on low dose OTC retinol (using #jordandsamuelskin etoile plus retinol). I'll post the other two some time this week.
.
1st cleanse: Oil-based cleanser (pH is not applicable here). Here I would use 1 of 3 oil-based cleansers, either JSS Plie, #Farmacy Green Clean, or The #GranolaGoat Prepare for Takeoff (pictured). The ingredients in the Granola Goat make it especially good for use around the eyes (castor oil is an ingredient which helps eye lashes grow🙌🏻 among other things).
.
2nd cleanse: Low pH cleanser bc disrupting the acid mantle can lead to dehydrated skin (among other things) & dehydrated skin has more fine lines. I love #Glossier #MilkyJellyCleanser
.
Active: After my skin is COMPLETELY dry, I apply either #tazorac 0.1% or #ziana 0.025%. Tazorac is the stronger of the two, so I rotate on between them based on how my skin is feeling.
.
Serum: JSS #HydrateSerum is one of those products that you enjoy using from the minute you use it, but you can forget just how important it is until you stop using it. When I didn't have it for a week, I got little flakeys on my skin & my skin looked dull & had more noticeable fine lines. 👎🏻☹️I also like to add #deciem #hylamide #subqantiage for the peptides to help with skin elasticity & firmness.
.
Moisturizer: #Nayelle Rejuvenate Probiotic Anti-aging night cream - I love the ingredients in this!
.
Eye Cream: #Chanel Le Lift. This is a #tophcammademedoit and I am so happy he did. I think it has helped to firm and smooth my eyelids.
.
#Facebalm: Depending on mood I will rotate between #MayLindstrom #BlueCocoon (especially when I need to calm down & ease anxiety) or @thelibraryapothecary #EldarBalm (I did a full review on this in an earlier post. The ingredients are Amazing--😍sacha inchi, rice bran oil, pomegranate, hemp seed oil😍, the list goes on).

New #Gtggphtest Time! (Click on that hashtag to see all the other cleansers I've tested). Today I'll be reporting four cleansers that were requested by some of you all.
.
👩🏼‍🔬Goal: Find water-based cleansers with a pH-level = 4.5-5.5 (for info on why, see below)
.
🔎Cleanser Tested: #Murad #ClarifyingCleanser
🎯 pH Level: 3.8
.
🔎Cleanser Tested: #Andalou Apricot Probiotic Cleansing Milk (sample sent by the lovely @beautyandthemountains along with the other Andalou Cleanser below)
🎯 pH Level: 5.7
.
🔎Cleanser Tested: Andalou Meyer Lemon Creamy Cleanser
🎯 pH Level: 7.0
.
🔎Cleanser Tested: #Korres Greek Yoghurt Foaming #CreamCleanser
🎯 pH Level: 7.3
.
📍The pH of a product only indicates whether it is acidic or basic. It can’t predict how your skin will respond to it. Other factors (like the overall formula) still need to be taken into consideration.
.
⭐️ The acid mantle of our skin is slightly acidic, with an average pH of 4.7 (Lambers, et al., 2006). Cleansers with a slightly acidic pH help to maintain the skin’s natural environment & protect the acid mantle. Disrupting the acid mantle can lead to acne, inflammation, atopic dermatitis, dehydrated or dry skin, skin sensitivity, & even fine lines. Cleansers with a slightly acidic pH of 4.5-5.5 are particularly ecommended for people with acne, rosacea, eczema, or dry itchy skin, but everyone can benefit from a cleanser with a pH in that range (or at least no higher than 6.5--I wouldn't personally go that high since I am acne-prone...see why below👇)
.
❌Acne grows well at pH values between 6 and 6.5 & when pH drops to 5.5, its growth noticeably decreases (Korting & Braun-Falco, 1996). Skin at 5.5 pH is better at preventing the growth of bacteria than skin at 6.5 pH (90% of bacteria prevented vs 60%, Schittek et al 2001).
.
❌Raising your skin’s pH to a 6.0 or higher, leaves the skin open to dryness, infection, & damage on a perpetual basis.
.
👩🏼‍🔬Fun fact 👨‍💻
The pH level scale is logarithmic – meaning each 1-unit increase represents a ten-fold increase. Ex: 4.5 is 100 times (10x10) more acidic than 6.5. So even a small change on the pH scale represents a large change in pH.

Day 14 of #mayskinchallenge is #SundayFacial -- I LOVED this routine. Wish I could have done this with my mom -- Love you @sandyboude !! Miss you!! 🌹
.
My favorite routines are ones that have really targeted products with high quality ingredients that also provide a sensory experience that make your feel truly pampered.🤗 I am looking forward to seeing everyone's Sunday Facials today!
.
Watch my IG story for info about this one. 👍🏻
.
💆🏼Mask: #MayLindstrom #problemsolver + #honeymud + #thecleandirt + #sonandpark #beautywater (add small amounts of beauty water at a time and stir until you get a fluffy consistency).
.
Mask left on for 20 minutes. While it is on I misted my face with #Manyofactory #lactobacillus Bifida Mist to keep the mask from fully drying
.
💆🏼Soothing Mist: #odacité #hydrarepair Treatment Mist in Aloe + Immortelle*. Such a fine mist that smells subtly of roses. I used this mist because it has Aloe and Chamomile (among other great ingredients) to help soothe my skin which was a little red after the mask. Very excited to keep using this mist!
.
💆🏼Emulsion (fancy way of saying mixture ☺️right @ms_hannah_e 😉):
.
2 drops of Odacité Black Cumin + Cajeput* to target some blemishes on forehead and jawline.

2 drops #jordansamuelskin #hydrateserum to keep skin supple and hydrated

Pea-size amount of May Lindstrom #bluecocoon to soothe the skin (and the smell always makes me so relaxed and happy.... one small problem is that my husband hates the smell of blue tansy and won't even sit near me when I use it 😬☹️) #olfactoryproblems
.
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all the moms out there.

Day 12 of the #MaySkinChallenge is "Below the chin". Here are some products that I use on my chest (or décolletage if you want to be fancy), hands and legs (not pictured is the prescription retinol that I use on my chest that is gentle enough for that thin skin. I use #Ziana with 0.025% tretinoin gel.).
.
Exfoliate: These #pixibeauty peels pads are gentle enough for my chest (if I use stronger acids on my chest it breaks out and gets really red and sensitive). I also use these on my elbows and @lathertolashes also suggested the genius move of using this on your heels as well. 👍🏻Do yourself a favor and rub an AHA on your heels for a couple days and be amazed. I could also use #theordinary 7% Glycolic acid on my chest but it's slightly stronger and it isn't in these handy wipes. But either would work for me.
.
Moisturizer: I also use a cheaper #Cerave all over, but I focus this #lelabo lotion in one of my favorite scents--Rose 31--on my arms. (Rose 31 and Santal 33 and 3 of the city-exclusive scents from Le Labo are my favorite perfumes!). The lotion smells a little different from the perfume (I was hoping for an identical scent), but it is still 👌🏻 . I also ❤️ the #BrazilianBumBumCream by #soldejaneiro --the smell really is AMAZING. Every time I use it, someone, especially my husband, comments on how good I smell. It adds some shimmer to the legs that is really subtle. I feel like flaws are minimized when your legs are not dry/scaly & when they have some shimmer. Do I think it helps with dimples? No. Weight lifting 🏋 is the only thing that has made a huge difference in that respect.
.
Sun protection: my chest breaks out SO easily, but the #Anthelios Ultra-light sunscreen by #LaRochePosay helps me keep that area protected w/o breaking me out.
.
Body oil: When I go out at night I like to put this #MayLindstrom The Good Stuff oil on my chest to give it a very subtle glow & to make me smell like chocolaty goodness. 🍫 My husband actually doesn't like the smell of this😣 but in this case I don't care because when I get a waft of the delicious smell it makes ME very happy. Most oils make my chest break out, but this one doesn't. 🙌🏻

Day 11 of the #MaySkinChallenge is Refresh.
For today's post, I thought it might be fun to put together a routine that I would do if I wanted to refresh my skin.
.
Cleanse: Use an oil-based cleanser to both cleanse and nourish the skin (added benefit if it has a refreshing scent which these both do😍). Two that I love are #JordanSamuelSkin Plie and #Farmacy #GreenClean . I would choose one or the other based on mood. (Both of these also count as my #IGmademedoit 😊)
.
Soothing Mist: Not a necessary step, but definitely a refreshing one! One of my favorites is #LaRochePosay #Serozinc . This is a particularly good mist if your skin is irritated, inflammed, or if you have acneic or oily skin.
.
The next grouping of products are all refreshing while also being hydrating and moisturizing.
.
Essence: #MayCoop Raw Sauce - Pressed into the skin. I find that this not only moisturizing but it seems to help other products absorb better.
.
Serum: Jordan Samuel Skin #HydrateSerum - 3 drops pressed into skin
.
Moisturizer: #Tatcha The Water Cream - I love how this seems to turn into a water-gel as you rub it in, and I love how it makes my skin feel. ❤️
.
Eye Cream: #Chanel Le Lift Eye Cream - Applied using the Chanel massage technique, which I always find to be super refreshing & relaxing.
.
Hydrating Mist: I decanted the #SonandPark #BeautyWater into a spray bottle based on a tip from @beauty_unplugged and I LOVE it as a mist (I also love it for a number of other uses as well, and the smell is so refreshing, in my opinion). My main reason for using a mist is to help the facial oil absorb better.
.
Facial oil: My two current daytime favorites are #SundayRiley #Artemis (which controls excess oil like no other oil I have used & I love the glow it gives & the smell!) and #TwigandBirdie Balancing Face Oil (which is fabulous when I am a bit drier & I love the antioxidants it provides & the smell is 👌🏻).

💬Thoughts: Let me start by saying that I Hated this cleanser. 1. It smelled like dish soap😒. 2. It didn't remove my eye makeup. And perhaps most importantly, 3. after using it my skin felt like every ounce of moisture was being sucked out of it. 😮My skin felt soft to the touch, but it also felt parched. 👎🏻I wasn't surprised at the pH, although I honestly thought it would be higher than that.😐

My skin is SO dry in Minnesota. My normally oily/combo skin is parched and crying out for moisture, so I opted to try out what looked like a lush moisturizer sample today and seal everything in with oil. 👍🏻
.
⛱Low pH cleanser: #glossier #milkyjellycleanser
.
⛱Vitamin C: #paulaschoice #resistc15 Super booster (I would normally follow this up with Paula's Choice BHA , but I'm too dry today so I skipped it)
.
⛱Hydration Serum: #jordansamuelskin #hydrateserum (I want to bathe in this because of how dry I am)
.
⛱Moisturizer: #freshbeauty Crème Ancienne soft cream -- I talk about this in my InstaStory. It soaked in and left lush. But I still felt like I needed more (hence the oil). But when I was checking out the texture I put it on my hands and it got rid of the scaly, flakey skin on my hands 🙌🏻(and I have been slathering then with all sorts of hand cream.) it's a good size samples so I'll be using this tonight and tomorrow too.
.
⛱Face Mist: #pixibeauty #hydratingmilkymist to get face nice and wet in preparation for oil
.
⛱Face oil: #twigandbirdie #balancingfaceoil - soaked in immediately and works great under makeup.

I haven't been able to participate in the last couple of days because I've been spending time with my nieces and nephew and house hunting🤗😬. Both fun and stressful stuff! (The house hunting part is giving me constant anxiety. 😩)
Anywho, today's focus of the #mayskinchallenge is cult classic.
.
When I went to Paris last year, I shopped at the French Pharmacies like I was stocking up for the end of the world (you can see my haul in an older post, complete with receipt so you can see the amazing cost savings!).
The Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré was one of the products that I picked up because it had cult status in the beauty world. Apparently, this moisturizer is amazing under makeup as a primer for those with dry skin.... however, because I am oily/combo it was a bit too much for me and I got pretty greasy. However, I love this at night. 😍It's soothing and always helps when my skin gets dry. I just can't bring myself to buy more because it's so much more money in the USA. 😞So... I guess I have an excuse to do another pharmacies haul in Paris, right?!
.
🎥P.S. any movies that you all love as cult classics? I wanted to include "Cry Baby" but couldn't find the DVD 😂... ahhh Johnny Depp with that single tear. So great!🎥
