This is a routine full of some new things I'm experimenting with plus a couple products that I have become completely obsessed with since the start of May.
1️⃣Cleanse: #farmacy green clean (np)
2️⃣Mask: after watching the video with @jordansamuelskin and @maylindstromskin I had to do a mask of #theproblemsolver plus #Etoile BUT since I have had a couple spots pop up this week, I always wanted to include some of @thegranolagoat #SeeingClearly Oil bc it's a powerhouse of 2 fab ingredients: blue tansy and jojoba. Thanks so much for that tip Jordan and May!
3️⃣Ok... since I started using the @skinceuticals Blemish + Age Defense* over a month ago. I have been HOOKED. As in, I have pretty much stopped all other actives at night bc I want to use this every nigh 😱. It has helped the tiny little texture bumps on my face & the spots that do appear, heal so much quicker. I'm reading a lot about the Dioic acid it uses & its making me even more excited to continue using it. Because I've heard this can be drying, I always use the Phyto Corrective Gel, or a hydrate serum plus a moisturizer & sometimes an oil. I haven't experienced any drying, but I Have seen better skin than I have seen in a long time. I thorough blog post is in the works after I've given it a full 8 weeks.
4️⃣Treatment Mist: #odacite Aloe + #immortelle* -- such a fine spray, beautiful ingredients. My skin feels plump & happy after
5️⃣Eye cream: #beautyrx #gentleexfoliating #eyetherapy cream*. I am going to start using this every other night (rotating with my fav, #Chanel Le lift) and see how it goes!
6️⃣Calm & hydrate: #skinceuticals #phytocorrectivegel - @myskincare_beautyjourney first introduced me to this & I have fallen in love with it. It is Sooo soothing & hydrating & I find this also helps to lighten post-acne marks
7️⃣#Moisturizer : @lathertolashes kindly sent me samples of the #alliesofskin A1 #alldaymask and my first impression is that the texture & feel of this is OUTSTANDING 👌🏻❤️. It's unlike anything I've tried. Its almost like a primer but thicker & it has a Matte-Satin finish. It didn't work well under my makeup today, but I'm going to mix things up & try again tomorrow (cont.👇)

Well you win some, you lose some. While shopping at Whole Foods A couple weeks ago, I came across a huge selection of glass bottles that I could use for decanting. Some worked out and one didn't.
.
HITS:
🏅#cleanser Decant: The main reason I love the #isclinical #cleansingcomplex in the small pump is because it helps me regulate how much I use each time. I do two pumps every morning and I know that I'm never over using and wasting this awesome product. An added benefit is that it takes up much less room in my cabinet and I can travel with it ✈️ .
🏅#bodyoil decant: My body oil from @josiemarancosmetics showed up with a faulty screw top and leaked product 😒. They wouldn't do a return or exchange🙄 so I bought a larger pump bottle and soon realized that I only needed to buy the pump itself because it fits on the #josiemaran bottle (that should have been obvious. But oh well). Another HUGE bonus is that it is so much easier to dispense a body Oil with a pump. The huge open mouth of the original packaging made it so that wayyy too much came out each time (I think everybody oil should have a pump or spray nozzle, but that's just me)
.
MISSES:
👎🏻#Eyeserum decant: I've always hated the packaging for #theordinary #caffeinesolution and in order to not get way too much product each time, I've taken to just dabbing the dropper under my eye. Recently I saw someone on here say that they decanted it into a rollerball application (I thought it was @staceywith_an_e but now I can't find that post) which was genius so I immediately bought a rollerball from that same company that I got the other bottles. Sadly, the roller ball hurt my eye area. It was rough and scratchy and didn't roll easily. I think the caffeine solution was too thick to easily come out, so I ended up have to run hard on my fingers and then press that under my eye. Not ideal. I poured it back in the original container. I still plan to look for a nicer roller ball bottle bc it's still a great idea!

My blog post comparing the #AveSeena #Honeyenzyme Beauty Mask (gifted by the brand) and #MayLindstrom #HoneyMud Cleansing silk is now up on my blog (link in bio). @Hiddenharmonyworld also posted an excellent review a couple days ago, so you should check her blog post out as well!
.
🎥I ended up filming my split mask comparison, so you will find a series of short videos on the blog.
.
Some things that stood out to me: .
👃🏻Smell:
In the jars they smell different. Honey Mud has a strong cocoa/honey/vanilla/citrus smell that I love but the AveSeena didn't really have a strong fragrance when I smelled it in the jar. On your face, however, they end up smelling very similar. 🙌🏻I think with the AveSeena mask warms up on your skin, the smell comes alive.
.
🍯Ingredients:
I prefer the first five ingredients in the Honey Mud mask vs. the AveSeena. I talk about why on the blog. BUT some people who are sensitive to essential oils may really appreciate that the AveSeena only has one essential oil in it (Honey Mud has 7).
.
✨Texture:
I prefer the texture of the Honey Mud mask because I am an inpatient person and I like that straight out of the jar it is smooth and easy to apply. The AveSeena takes some getting used to. I have warmed it in my fingers, added water to my fingers, and then tried adding a couple drops of water to the product in a dish. Adding a couple drops of water resulted in the texture that I liked,👌🏻❤️but I had to use more product to get it to a good consistency.
.
All in all, the AveSeena mask is a great option for people that might be sensitive to essential oils or that want to save some money up front. (However, for those outside of the US, I'm not entirely sure about any cost savings.) For me personally, I will repurchase the @maylindstromskin Honey Mud bc I think it would last a bit longer and I like that I don't have to mix it with anything to achieve the texture I love. But I still really enjoyed the @aveseena mask & would recommend others check it out. 👍🏻

I always wished there was a way to search by ingredients for different products. Sometimes there are ingredients that I know I need to avoid because of allergies or skin irritations, and other times there are ingredients that I know my skin loves and I'd like to find products that have those ingredients. But there wasn't an easy way for me to search for specific ingredients in one place. So I started to slowly compile ingredient lists for mists that I was looking into. Pretty soon I decided it would be helpful to try to get as comprehensive a list as I could in case this is helpful for others as well. That being said, I am sure there are many mists that are not listed. If you see some that you think should be added, feel free to leave a comment.🗣
.
⭐️Also, I'd love to hear what your favorite mists are!⭐️
.
Things you will find in the database:
Tab 1: Products
📍Brand and product name
📍Price (in USD), ounces, and price per ounce (which I always find fascinating).
📍A very basic description of what the company says the mist targets
📍Complete ingredients (I use the search function-Ctrl-F-on the desktop/laptop to hunt for ingredients. Searching the INCIs is my favorite way to justify a purchase 😬😉)
.
Tab 2: Select Ingredient Details
This tab is constantly a work in progress and it is by no means exhaustive. I just wanted to start to write down some benefits of the different ingredients as a starting place to learn more & because I have a bad memory. I will try to add to this and update the document over time.
.
There are currently 7️⃣0️⃣ products😱 👉🏻There were so many I couldn't fit them all in the image! 😐
📸product images came from company webpage

I did this routine yesterday morning and my makeup looked amazing and semi-matte AND it stayed that way all day! So this morning I repeated it, but I was didn't use the @beautyrxskincare SPF. My makeup still looked good 👌🏻but it wasn't as matte as it was yesterday, so I think that SPF does a darn good job at keeping my oil in check! Using the @odacite Pe + C serum has also been really helping oil regulation as well. 👍🏻
.
#isclinical #cleansingcomplex
.
#zoskincare #balatone toner
.
#paulaschoice #skinperfecting 2% BHA Liquid (this plus the iS Clinical have really been clearing out my pores!)
.
@sundayriley C.E.O. rapid flash brightening serum*
(I tested this on my chest for a week & it didn't break me out and my skin responded well 👍🏻so now it's time to test it on my face) It's hydrating and nice under makeup. It has a Vit C derivative (15% THD Ascorbate) and other ingredients to help with the appearance of pores and skin tone. Time will tell if it works as well as my Paula's Choice Resist C15 Booster 🤷🏼‍♀️
.
#caudalie #polyphenolc15 #antiwrinkledefenseserum -This technically also has a form of Vitamin C plus isopalmitic acid but there's no way to know what the concentration is, and I've honestly never considered this a vitamin C treatment. Instead, I've always just used this serum when I want glowy skin (I haven't seen a lot of other benefits but it works in terms of glowy hydration💁🏼).
.
I mixed the Caudalie Serum with two drops of #odacite Peach-Cypress #serumconcentrate* (which is my current go-to daytime oil).
.
#beautyrx #solardefense #sheersunscreen* - using the same routine with and then without this sunscreen was eye opening. This really helps to control oil and it works so well under makeup! 🙌🏻

Tonight I did a split-face mask to compare the @maylindstromskin Lindstrom Honey Mud mask with the @aveseena Honeyactive beauty mask. 😍🙌🏻❤️
I want to use the AveSeena mask* one more time and also wait 3-4 days to see if my skin reacts at all before I write up the comprehensive review. So I'm thinking l'll write up my thoughts on Sunday. (I'm saying this on here to make me accountable. 😬😉)
.
It's not about finding a dupe, it's all about having options and seeing how things compare. I have a deep, deep love for May's Honey Mud, but I love when consumers (myself included) have options. That's where @aveseena comes in.
.
Spoiler: They have some definite similarities as well as some very distinct qualities--so I'll try to outline those for you all as best I can! 🤗
.
I plan to cover ingredients, price, smell, texture, effect on skin, and other unique attributes. If you have specific things you'd like to see, let me know!

New blog post (link in bio) is up on the @beautyrxskincare #solardefense sheer #sunscreen #spf50
.
Cost: $42 for 2.5 oz ($16.80 per oz)
.
10.5% Zinc
7.5% Octinoxate
.
Verdict: 👍🏻👍🏻
.
🌞About a month ago, BeautyRx by Dr. Schultz sent me their Solar Defense Sheer Sunscreen SPF 50 to try out for honest review. I was really excited to give it a try because my current favorite (La Roche-Posay Antheliox XL Ultra-light 50+ Fluid) was almost out, and I can't get that specific formulation in the U.S. (I originally had purchased it in Paris). So I have officially been on the hunt for a new sunscreen.
I had heard good things about this sunscreen from @beauty_unplugged so I was hopeful it would work for my oily/combo and acne-prone skin.
.
Spoiler: It did!
.
It doesn't leave a white cast once it absorbs (which is rather quickly), and it leaves a satin-Matte finish and works SO WELL under makeup (yes, it works so well I had to write that in caps). Oily/combo skin people will really love this...but I think this might even work for all skin types.
.
I started to question if I was crazy and this was all too good to be true, so I sent some to @ashleyellebeauty because she has also been on the hunt for a good sunscreen with no white cast. So what was the result? This doesn't leave a white cast on me and @ashleyellebeauty said it doesn't leave a white cast on her either.. success! (Definitely keep an eye out for her review because I think it's coming 😊)
.
Also, right before posting this I saw that @gracefulfaceblog posted a review and she said she is also loving this! (you should check out her post)💃🏼
.
I swear there is actually a bit more info on the blog (like some cost comparisons and the full INCI) if you want to check it out 😊

🔸#clinique Cleansers tested🔸

📍#gelpurefocus #deeppurifyingcleanser oily skin pH=7.5
📍#galateeconfort #milkycreamcleanser for dry skin pH=5.9
📍#cremeradiance cream to foam cleanser for normal/combo skin - pH=9.8‼️(This cleanser had a horrible sticky texture & that pH is awful.)
.
.🔆Very Important: The pH of a product only indicates whether it is acidic or basic. It can’t predict how your skin will respond to it. Other factors (like the overall formula) still need to be taken into consideration.
.
🔆Cleansers with a slightly acidic pH of 4.5-5.5 are particularly ecommended for people with #acne, #rosacea, eczema, or dry skin, but everyone can benefit from a cleanser with a pH in that range (or at least no higher than 6.5--I wouldn't personally go that high since I am acne-prone...see why below👇
.
🔆The acid mantle of our skin is slightly acidic, with an average pH of 4.7 (Lambers, et al., 2006). Cleansers with a slightly acidic pH help to maintain the skin’s natural environment & protect the acid mantle. Disrupting the acid mantle can lead to acne, inflammation, atopic dermatitis, dehydrated or dry skin, skin sensitivity, & even fine lines.
.
🔆Acne grows well at pH values between 6 and 6.5 & when pH drops to 5.5, its growth noticeably decreases (Korting & Braun-Falco, 1996). Skin at 5.5 pH is better at preventing the growth of bacteria than skin at 6.5 pH (90% of bacteria prevented vs 60%, Schittek et al 2001).
.
🔆Raising your skin’s pH to a 6.0 or higher, leaves the skin open to dryness, infection, & damage on a perpetual basis. Long-term use of cleansers with a high pH can result in irritation that is great enough to cause hyperpigmentation (Baranda et al., 2002)
.
👩🏼‍🔬Fun fact 👨‍💻
The pH level scale is logarithmic – meaning each 1-unit increase represents a ten-fold increase.

🌞AM Routine 🌞
.
1. Cleanse (not pictured): #iSClinical Cleansing Complex
.
2. Prepare for vitamin C by using a pH-adjusting toner. This is an optional step but I always do it before pH-dependent products (especially vitamin C) because I think it helps me see better results. @talesofskincare gifted me this #zoskinhealth #balatone calming toner and I am loving it. I also like to give my Vit C time to fully absorb before moving on to next step (usually I wait around 15 min)
.
3. Prevent photo-aging and restore skin with #vitaminC - #paulaschoice #ResistC15 - this has 15% l-ascorbic acid with #vitaminE and #ferulicacid . I really love this Vit. C - but sometimes it can be a bit drying depending on the time of year. But I will most likely repurchase.
.
4. Spot Treat: Stress and emotions over the last week has definitely contributed to an unwanted breakout. 😖I am treating it with my all time favorite #peterthomasroth #acneclearinggel with 10% Glycolic Acid and 2% Salicylic Acid.
.
5. Moisturize but also control oil: I have realized that I am prone to dehydrated skin that is also oily. Fun stuff 😕I wanted to use @Skinceuticals phyto corrective gel* to soothe my skin but also moisturize it, but when I used this on its own the other day it was a bit too greasy for under makeup. So I blended it with the @stratiaskin Liquid Gold (to help repair my acid mantle, treat, and hydrate) along with 2 drops of the @odacite Peach-Cypress serum Concentrate* (to help minimize excess oil but not over-dry my skin). Mixing those three made my skin feel SO good and I wasn't especially oily throughout the day. I'm definitely going to do this combo again!🙌🏻
.
6. Eye cream: Not pictured but I am still comparing the Pur-lisse Eye cream with my favorite--Chanel Le Lift Eye Cream. 2 weeks down, 2 more to go. I always put the Pur-lisse on my left eye and Chanel on my right🤓
.
7. Protect from UVA/UVB damage with #beautyRx #SolarDefense Sheer Sunscreen SPF 50* ❤️❤️

Ever since falling in love with #SundayRiley #Artemis I have become fascinated (and sort of obsessed) with learning more about the ingredients in oils. Most of the oils that really appeal to me (bc I am oily & acne prone) are linoleic, gamma-linoleic and alpha-linoleic. Oils high in oleic acid don't usually overly excite me, but the more I read, the more I realize I was selling them some of them short! 😬
.
I wanted to feature one today. .
**Camellia oil**
Oleic acid: 80%
Linoleic acid: 9%
Palmitic acid: 9%
Stearic acid: 1%
Arachidic acid: 1%
.
💕#Camelliaoil is high in monounsaturated #oleicacid, giving it excellent skin conditioning properties. It is able to rejuvenate and maintain moisture in the skin.
.
💕Rich in Omega 6 and 9
.
💕Absorbs quickly
.
💕Due to large amount of tannins present in the seeds, it is a dry oil with astringent properties, so unlike some other high-oleic oils, it's still a good choice for oily or problem skin (bonus: it doesn't clog pores). The astringent properties help minimize pores & tighten tissues
.
💕It helps to increase the feel of skin's elasticity & gives it a luminous glow.
.
💕It also helps with prevention & repair of scarring.
.
💕Its packed with protective polyphenols, (vitamins A, B, C, and E), & other antioxidants that protect the skin from UV and environmental exposure and free radical damage.
.
💕It has plant-derived squalene to nourish & support the skin.
.
Below are some products with Camellia oil (focusing on those that have camellia oil high on the ingredient list):

💔I'm so heartbroken. Doug was our first friend when we moved out to Washington, DC. We watched Doug fall in love, get married, have an amazing son. We never wanted to have to say goodbye. 😢
.
I feel helpless...so all I can do is cry and donate to alsa.org in Doug's memory and ask that anyone else that is able to, might do the same. ALS is awful and cruel and it took a GREAT man far too soon.

I'll be offline today to celebrate my nephew's 2nd bday 🎂 🤗But I wanted to post some pH test results first!

I'll be reporting 3 @renskincare cleansers that were requested by you all. It looks like REN does a good job at keeping their cleansers below 5.5 👍🏻
