I have been thinking about a skincare routine for a 20 year old, and it made me think about what types of products I wish I had used when I was in my 20s (I am currently 35).
.
If these products had been available when I was in my 20s, these are what I wish I would have used.
.
Swipe to see my reasoning behind each category in picture 2
.
(I started using a prescription retinol in my mid-to-late twenties to treat acne, and I am glad I did that because it was also helpful in terms of slowing signs of aging in addition to clearing up my skin).

Serums might be one of my favorite categories of skincare products.
When it comes to serums, there are some that I like to apply as close to my skin as possible (like my retinol, L-Ascorbic Acid serums or my BHA). But for many of my other serums, I like to make a serum cocktail where I mix together a drop of a couple different serums and then apply them all at once. This not only saves me some time in my routine but it also usually ensures I have enough product to go down my neck and chest and use the left over on my hands.
The specific combo that I use depends on how my skin is feeling but it always includes some form of hydration (either through a specific hydrating serum, or another serum that has a fair amount of hydrating ingredients). I usually combine two serums, but I will go up to 3.
.
🌟Hydrating Serums🌟
A. #jordansamuelskin Hydrating Serum ($29/1oz)
B. #jkosmmune Beta-glucan serum* ($46/1.7oz)
C. #tula Aqua Infusion Power Liquid* ($52/1oz)
.
[For the other categories, I will put a 💦 symbol next to the serums that I find are hydrating enough to not need to include a separate hydrating serum.]
.
🌟Antioxidant Blends🌟
D. #Skinbetter #AltoDefenseSerum ($145/1oz)
E. #Prescriptives #SuperLinePreventor* ($84/1.7oz) 💦
.
🌟Soothing🌟
F. #SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Gel* ($66/1oz) 💦
.
🌟Firming🌟
G. #PaulasChoice #PeptideBooster* ($52/0.7oz)💦
.
🌟Improve/Brighten Skin Tone🌟
H. @paulaschoice 10% #Niacinamide Booster* ($42/0.7oz)
I. Paula's Choice #ResistBrighteningEssence ($42/1oz)
.
Combos I've been using lately:
➖A+F (calms and hydrates for when Im super dehydrated)
➖D+G (extra AOX protection, firming, and hydrating)
➖B+H+I (hydrating, brightening, and reduces redness)
➖C+D (AOX and hydration) -- I just started using the Tula serum. So far so good.

Trying to focus a bit on this skincare hobby of mine to help distract my mind and pull me out of my rut, so I took this @skinbetter serum with me on my walk to work (this is a picture of a huge mural in the downtown skyway) and snapped some pics so I could enter the #harbenhousesummer giveaway (for a TNS essential Serum 😱 which I'd like to give my mom to test the effects ☺️)
.
Little background on the serum in the pic. I have wanted this antioxidant blend for SO Long (I found put about this product by reading a review by @talesofskincare 😘). And recently the lovely @refresh_byhilary surprised me by sending me this @skinbetter #altodefenseserum 😀 and I just started incorporating it into my routines. .
So what is it? In short, it is an antioxidant blend (with a pretty impressive of antioxidants, in my opinion). So the goal is to help PREVENT photoaging and damage from free radicals and oxidative stress (think: pollution, stress, lack of sleep, UV exposure, alcohol, etc) rather than TREAT current signs of aging. I always have a hard time reviewing and evaluating AOX serums because their goal isn't to immediately improve or treat the skin; instead, they are helping to prevent damage. So I tend to base my opinion off of: 1) Ingredients, 2) if it breaks me out, 3) how it layers and feels on my skin, 4) price per ounce in comparison to other serums, 5) any extra benefits (like added hydration). .
Because I have consistently used other antioxidant serums (like my Vitamin C serums) I'm not expecting a skin transformation, but I would like to think my skin has an extra layer of protection and is getting more resilient and healthy over time.
.
I'll report back on my experience with this once its been a couple months!
.
Also, today is the last day to enter @harbenhouse photo contest giveaway! If you have any product that HarbenHouse sells, post a pic! I tag @karmakarlie18 @honestlyskin @theskinstudy

I'm gutted at the tragic passing of @codyiorns💔💔💔💔
.
He was in Breckinridge when Quin was injured and he checked in on Quin constantly and helped me through that awful time. I'll never forget the advice he gave me in the months that followed, because he knew firsthand how frustrating recovery can be for the person injured and the caretaker.
.
I am so incredibly grateful that there have been news stories about him because I can hear his voice reminding me to choose to step out of my comfort zone more, and to not let anything stand in the way of what makes me happy.
[I hope NatGeo and WJLA don't mind me taking snippets of their interviews with #codyiorns because hearing his voice again has helped me so much.]
.
Cody was the kind of person that made you feel special. He was so positive and funny and his laugh....it was just the best. To know Cody, was to love Cody. And our group of friends loved him very much.
.
He used to tease me about this skincare account (especially my IG handle 😆), so I thought it was only fitting to do a tribute to him on here in addition to my personal page because I think he'd get a kick out of that.
.
Hope you are riding waves and then watching the sunset with scotch, Cody. We will always miss you but will carry you in our hearts 🌊🏝🥃 ❤️

These were three masks I brought to Florida for the 6 weeks I was there. Two are my "emergency masks" and the other is a favorite for everyday skin pampering.
.
What mask do you always pack when you go on vacation?? I love hearing people's Go To masks!
.
🌞SUNBURNS -- I picked up 3 tubes of #biafixine when I was in Paris last year and it has come in handy so many times. If I ever accidentally get too much sun, I put a thick layer of this on before bed and when I wake up the burn is barely noticeable 👍🏻
.
🚨BLEMISHES -- I've done a blog and IG post on this @thegranolagoat S.O.S. mask so I'll keep this brief and say this is SUCH an effective yet gentle mask (and it's really versatile because you can mix your own concoction based on your skin's needs, in my blog post I talk about some favorite combinations). Great at shrinking spots and calming redness and inflammation
.
🕸DULL, DRY SKIN -- I've talked about this @tula kefir recovery mask on my IG stories quite a bit but I've never written up a full review, which is crazy because it's one of my favorite masks. I put 2 full pumps on my face and leave on for as little as 30 min but often I forget it's on and leave it on for alot longer. Wiping it off with a damp cloth always reveals hydrated and bouncy skin.

New Blog Post with a database of 93 facial oils (link in bio)
.
I started an excel file with oil ingredients over year ago in an effort to find something similar to Sunday Riley Artemis... which I LOVE but it is discontinued. To find something similar I was scouring ingredient lists to find something with as much overlap as possible. I never found a perfect replacement, but I did find some other oils that I really loved.
.
Something else I learned as I was looking for an alternative to Artemis was to look for oils that were high in Linoleic acid, rather than Oleic Acid. I have oily skin, and I found that using oil blends that predominantly contain oils high in Linoleic Acid worked wonders on my skin--never leaving me overly greasy. That led me to team up with Natalie from @roadtoglow (she is also the founder of @alkimiskin) to create an infographic to help identify oils by their fatty acid profile.
.
I also found it fascinating to look at the cost per mL and I often wonder if a product is unique enough to justify the cost.
.
Over time I kept adding to my facial oil excel file, and now I've decided to share it with you all!
.
I tried to make as comprehensive a list as I could. That being said, I am sure there are many oils that are not listed (so my apologies if a favorite or yours is missing... Feel free to leave a comment for ones I should add!)
.
Tip: Please learn from my mistakes and DON'T stockpile oils. When I was making this database I ended up acquiring far too many oils than I could ever use😞 Now my goal is to only have 1 or 2 oils open at a time

On Feb 1, I started using the @mynuface* device 5 days a week for 60 days & tracked my progress. Then I stopped using it consistently--only using it once a week--for the following month to see how what happened to my results.
.
Below I provide my results.
.
*not sponsored. But I was sent the device via PR with no expectation for review. All opinions are my own*
.
❗️Important context: I am 35, I do not have a lot of loose skin or jowls. (I have seen some great results on people that are older than me). My major concerns that I was trying to target was (1) my hooded eyes. and (2) I wanted to lift the corners of my mouth and help with parentheses.
.
📍How I used it: 5 x a week (~7-10min) for 60 days, doing an advanced routine (see my story highlights for routine). I treated my entire face but I concentrated on lifting eyes & mouth area.
.
📍What does it do?: #nuface delivers soft wave microcurrent to help increase facial contours & firm the skin/ muscles
.
🔍Here is how I evaluated it:
.
1️⃣Before/After photos of bare skin (📸 taken first thing in the morning)
.
➖Eyelids➡️Slight improvement at 30 days in, noticeable improvement at 60 days. 🏆👍🏻👏🏻However to test its lasting power I reduced my use of NuFace to 1-2 X a week for the final 30 days & it went away. So the lesson for me was #useitorloseit
➖Smile lines➡️No really noticeable improvements at any point
.
2️⃣📸 Before & immediately after using
.
➖Eyelids➡️minimal reduction in puffy eyes if I was quite puffy to begin with
➖Mouth area➡️No improvements
.
3️⃣📸 in the middle of the day to see if makeup settled in smile lines.
.
➖I posted pics so you can be the judge. For me it was inconclusive but there were some weeks (wk 3 & 6) that my parentheses didn't look as deep & makeup didn't settle as much. But my skin's hydration level & foundation would've also played a role in that.
.
4️⃣ Self-assessment of how skin felt
.
➖When I was consistently using it, my skin felt firmer, almost like it bounced back easier when I smiled 👏🏻(my crows feet didn't bother me as much even though my Botox in that area wore off in Feb & I haven't gotten more).👍🏻
.
(Continued in comments)

I'm about to post my review of @mynuface after using it consistently (5 days a week for 60 days) and then seeing what happened if I dropped down to once or twice a week for last 30 days. But first I thought I would share this graphic I put together to explain how the mini and the #nufacetrinity and #nufacemini differ.
.
Since they have the same strength and the mini doesn't require a docking station, I'm happy I have a mini. (It was sent to me via PR).
.
Importantly, I am still able to treat the eye area by using one sphere of the device (see my story highlights to see how I do that). So while the eye and lip attachment seemed nice, it also didn't seem 100% necessary (at least in my opinion, but those with a smaller face may prefer the smaller attachment 🤷‍♀️)
.
Recently @lathertolashes posted about the other attachment that you can use with the trinity--it is a red and infrared light therapy attachment--and that one sounds really interesting! (Be sure to check out her post!)
.
If you have any of the attachments, let me know what you think!
.
Bottom line, unless you plan to buy the attachments, you can probably just save some money and get the mini!
.
Keep an eye out for my full #nuface review coming soon!
.
(Not sponsored, I just like making graphics for fun 😊)

After my last hair cut 8 weeks ago that chopped off my hair wayyyy shorter than I wanted (and the cut itself wasn't great), I was determined to grow out my hair as quick as possible. But I was told that in order for your hair to grow long and healthy you need get a trim every 6-8 weeks. So I went for a trim today at my favorite stylist down in Florida and she cleaned up the uneven pieces (which there were alot of! 😱) and got rid of the razored ends. Surprisingly now I don't hate the shorter hair. In fact... I am actually really liking it. Also, I left a hair salon happy....which seems to only happen when I see Keri at @thesalonexperience ❤️❤️❤️❤️#newhairwhodis #shorthairdontcare

#facemaskreview of some #facemasks @beautytapofficial sent over for me to try👍🏻
.
1. #SanDaWha Camellia Flower Antioxidant Cream Mask ($45 for 100g): I was surprised by this mask because it really did make my skin appear bright. This has Camellia Flower extract & powder in it which helps to soothe and brighten skin (it also has #Niacinamide high up in the INCI), and then it has little camellia petals which honestly bug me because they tickle my face... but I can deal with them. It has glycerin,  arginine (a natural moisturizing factor) and other natural humectants so that explains why this was so hydrating. I think the key is a thick layer and leaving it on for at least 20 min... if you can stand the petals tickling your face :)

2. #skinfood #ricemask ($11 for 100g). Such an affordable and nice mask. I thought I wouldn't like this because I avoid any mask with physical exfoliation, but the rice particles in this mask offer such gentle exfoliation. And I found that it left my skin super soft. I put a thick layer on (and I don't massage it in) and then I let it sit for 20 min and I gently massaged it as I washed it off. .
3. #etudehouse #honeycera Wrapping Mask ($11 for 100g). This one had the most appealing ingredient list (it has honey extract as first ingredient, royal jelly, mushroom extract, and ceramides, and more). So I really wanted to love this. And TBH my skin looks great after using it. It makes my skin soft, soothed & hydrated. However, I personally find this to be super annoying to wash off. Maybe its because I put a thick layer on or that I leave it on longer than 10 minutes, but it takes work getting it off. Plus I don't enjoy the floral-ish smell. I passed this on to a friend because I liked the effects but I didn't have the patience for the removal.🤷‍♀️
.
4. #Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Color #ClayMask Hydrating ($9 for 70g) . I didn't find this mask to be hydrating as the name suggests. However, it did feel clarifying (as most clay masks will) but the hyaluronic acid  seemed to help make the clay a bit more gentle and not leave my skin feeling as tight as many clay masks do for me. I passed this on to a friend.

REVIEW OF @skinceuticals BLEMISH + AGE DEFENSE*
.
As the name suggests, it is for someone that cares about reducing fine lines/signs of aging AND preventing blemishes. It is also designed to inhibit excess sebum production (which was key for someone like me that always finds themselves a bit too shiny by midday). In a nutshell, it exfoliates skin, decongests pores & refines the skin’s surface. Where I have seen the biggest improvement is in texture on my skin & the regulation of sebum. 👉It took 4-5 weeks to see those improvements.
I think this product doesn't market itself very well because when I saw the bottle I thought it was a spot treatment bc of how it advertised the Salicylic acid (SA) I wasn't too interested in it because I usually like to have at least 2% SA as a spot treatment (and this has 1.5%). But I am really glad I took a closer look at the ingredients and really gave this a try because it is one of my favorite products I've tried. (And FWIW I've never used it as a spo

On the blog I talk about two studies. One found that Blemish + Age Defense was as effective as #BenzaClin for the treatment of acne. Another compared it to Tretinoin and it was as effective as Tretinoin for a number of outcomes & it was statistically better than #Tretinoin in improving skin tone (weeks 1, 4, and 8) and blotchiness (weeks 4 and 8) and in reducing total lesions
