It seems like people only fall into ends of this spectrum. There people like me, who can smash 400mg of caffeine (the equivalent of 5 cups of regular black coffee) and two hours be asleep with no problems, then those that could have half of that and toss and turn all night without being able to fall into a sweet slumber! Lucky for those people, one of my favourite single ingredients accommodates the fat-burning, focus and energy needs without the stims!
ACETYL-L-CARNITINE is exactly what it sounds like, an acetylated form of l-carnitine. It's aids in metabolizing energy from food and assists in using fat as an energy source. This type of l-carnitine is also shown to promote production of acetylcholine, which is an important neurotransmitter in both the peripheral and central nervous systems. There's also a correlation of increased dopamine released with increased intake of acetyl-l-carnitine. Dopamine is the neurotransmitter that is the "feel good chemical" and is often linked to pleasurable experiences and thought activity in the brain.
All of these supplements have acetyl-l-carnitine in them. Depending on your goals and training style/sessions, you may notice benefit with supplemental acetyl-l-carnitine at a range of 500-3000mg. It's best consumed pre-exercise.
