You might have heard a little on the news about the recent passing of #jonghyun. For those who don’t know I thought I would share a little bit.
Jonghyun was one of the OGs of Kpop, a talented singer and songwriter. He made his debut with SHINee (shiny) in 2008, along with the group’s other members: Onew, Minho, Taemin, And Key. They’ve been together for almost 10 years, a rarity in this industry.
I grew up with their music, watching their antics, laughing at their goofiness for years. More than their talent, watching how much they all obviously loved each other and had a blast together was always the best part.
I can’t believe he’s gone.
I’ve been down since hearing the news. He touched so many lives. In Korea, 10,000 people turned up to pay their respects (the largest funeral in recent history). There have been memorials in countries around the world, from Hungary to Indonesia.
A rare blue moon was spotted on the day of his funeral, the aqua color of the Fandom, leading many to say it was a sign that he was at peace, letting everyone know he was ok.
In Korea, a common expression of praise is tell someone they’ve done well/they’ve worked hard. In his last message to his sister, jonghyun begged her to tell him that he’d done well. He was in so much pain.
He was only 27. We have to get better at talking about depression. We have to get better at making it ok for people to express that they hurting.
Goodbye, Bling Bling. Thanks for everything. #youdidwelljonghyun
