An injustice against South African actors has carried on for far too long. Perhaps the #PerformersProtectionAmendmentBill will not magically solve all the ills of the industry, but it is a crucial building block towards creating an industry in which performers are treated fairly and with dignity. We will not be silenced! We will not back down. Our voices matter.
Yesterday some hair account inboxed me saying they've noticed that I've started a natural hair journey and they'd like to assist me with ways of taking care of it. I told them I was offended considering that chances are my hair has been this way before their business even existed. I'm not mad. I just need to you to laugh with me. I can handle my hair.
I will probably never get to tell just what this grandchild of the Zizi clan! Daughter of diTau tsa ga Makgalemele! Mother of the Kumalo clan! My Choma van toeka af! really means to me. All I know is that in God's dictionary, friendship is what @basetsanakumalo and I have and she continues to demonstrate it. This week, she put aside her own stature and interests to be my much needed support in parliament. I am blessed to call her my fair and foul weather friend. #FFWF because #BFF is not enough.
I come here often. Yesterday was different though. I came to parliament carrying the hopes and cries of South African actors. I know the power of the united voices of Mzansi actors. I hope we did enough. The struggle continues ✊🏽#IamAnActor#PerformersProtectionAmendmentBill
My #WCW Ms Meshendri Padayachee An attorney and dedicated public servant. I remember this day so well. We were at the @joburgtheatre addressing actors on the work of the Presidential Task Team of Deputy Ministers on Creative Industries. I had the honour of serving this Task Team as an advisor. I also remember how I gave her a hard time when she first presented on the Copyright Amendment Bill and the Performers Protection Amendment Bill at our meeting at Tuynhuis in 2015. You may never get to know just how much this young woman fights for the arts. I choose her as my #WCW because I know that if at any point she had decided to give up, We would not be headed to @parliamentofrsa for the public hearings on the Performers Protection Amendment Bill. Thank you for tirelessly fighting for us.
