People have been asking me about my blog lately and if I'll get back to it. The answer is YES and I love you for motivating me! I miss it too. Writing is so therapeutic for me ❀
Motherhood is so much more than I could have imagined. I read and researched my brains out before Evie came along but nothing I read, or the time I spent baby sitting, or being an auntie nor the amount of mama friends I have or even my own mom could prepare me for the life changing experience that this girl has brought me. It's ALL ENCOMPASSING. It's 24/7. It's ALL the emotions ALL the time. It's beautiful and hard. It's beautifully hard.
Evie at 6 months is so much fun. Her personality is shining through so bright it's blinding. She's sweet and funny and smart and strong. She's so determined and loving. Cheeky too.
I had images of Mat leave involving a tidy house and me busy blogging while Evie napped in her swing or something. Hahaha. What a joke. For one thing she hates the swing. She's never used it. She does love to play with me though. 😍😍(see her tooth?). And the house? Forget it. Disaster. Btw I said I wouldn't dress her in tons of pink. HA! She looks great in pink. That's the tip of the iceberg isn't it!? All the things we say we wouldn't do, we do. I do what she needs. It comes down to that. πŸ’•
Anyway so back to the blog, I do feel like I'm in a space with her that it's more realistic to find time for writing so stay tuned! And thank you for staying interested in my blog in the first place! Love you 😘😘😘

This weather + farmer's market + babywearing made my day! ❀

Seriously though, I love good food. I haven't been posting a ton of nutrition stuff lately because I'm still figuring how to juggle life with a new baby. (6 months is still new right!? πŸ‘ΆπŸ»πŸ˜¬πŸ˜³). Just because I'm not posting though doesn't mean I've lost my enthusiasm for holistic nourishing nutrition. In fact I think having another person to nourish both through breast feeding and now through real food has re-enforced so much about nutrition that I love. I feel so inspired and excited to introduce Evie to such a wonderful world of tastes, textures, smells. All those phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals. So colourful and fun! Imagine if you could do that all over again now as an adult? What a party! πŸŽ‰

P.s I think Baby led weaning is like the flexible dieting concept for kids. 🀣🀣🀣

6 months old today!! πŸ‘ΆπŸ»β€. -
Evie is so full of life! Everywhere we go people comment on how active, alert, attentive and focused she is. This baby wants to learn everything asap. She's always moving. Always. She worked all week on sitting and crawling and she got it today! She figured out how to sit from being on her belly and she took her first tiny crawling steps. 😱😱😱 She's got her first tooth pushing through and she can't wait for more because this kid loves to eat! Teeth or no teeth 🀣 (actually she'd probably opt for none because those things hurt coming in!). So far her favourite foods are strawberries, cucumber and chicken. She's also now a pro at getting lots of mommy's milk anytime she wants day and night. Evie is almost always smiling (except during leaps 😭😳) and has a hilarious silent laugh. She giggles but she won't give up a huge baby belly laugh and it's killing me. She's too busy reading(and chewing) her favourite book or talking at the top of her lungs to laugh out loud. Ha! She's also recently become content playing with her toys and chatting herself. That's new and so cute! She loves her doggie, her daddy and being out and about, hopefully with lots of interesting people around. Busier the better for this girl. But respect her space or she will complain. She doesn't like close talkers 😜🀣. Guys, 6 months already!? How? Oh how I love her ❀❀😍😍

This baby girl started solids this week! πŸ₯’πŸ₯•πŸ₯‘πŸ₯πŸπŸ‘πŸ“πŸ‰πŸŒπŸ—πŸ³πŸ₯œπŸ . It kind of just organically happened (haha see what I did there? 😜). We were out for brunch last week and I handed her cantaloupe melon and that was it, she's hooked πŸ˜‹πŸ’•πŸ‘ΆπŸ» I had read Baby Led Weaning so we were working up to it and it wasn't totally unplanned but less so than I thought it would be. Since then she's had egg, banana, strawberry, cucumber, zucchini, lettuce, green bean, brown rice pasta, ground turkey from the tomato sauce I made, ground beef from last night's homemade burger and peanut butter on GF toast 🀣🀣. Pretty sure there is no turning back now, this girl wants to eat! So far she's been into all of it.
She's basically tasting all things and not really ingesting all that much just yet (but def some!). That's cool (and considered normal with blw) because boobs πŸ‘€ πŸ˜‰ -
It's true, babies grow up so fast!! I got a little teary 😳#babyledweaning #blw #6monthsold #breastfeeding #babyevie

One of my favourite kinds of noodles are zucchini noodles. Literally just zucchini spiralized and then lightly sautΓ©ed to soften a bit. Like 5min to make max.
They are a great option for people who aren't eating grains, want lower carb options or just a way to get more veggies into your diet.
You can essentially use almost any veggie but zucchini is always my fave when it comes to topping with tomato meat sauce. ❀

Also, my experience has been that the @inspiralized spiralizer is the BEST on the market. I've had it for a few years now and it's awesome. Just thought I'd share πŸ˜»πŸ‘ŒπŸΌ#sharing #foodie #eatmoreplants

I got to spend today with my little family. πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§πŸΆ. We slept in, had brunch and ran some errands (and everyone was in a good mood 🀣). I also had time to get some client work done that needed doing. Steak dinner and bath and bedtime. So simple but somehow so perfect. -
I feel like things seem to slow down but also speed up with a baby. It's all a blur but also each moment is so special. 24 hours a day 7 days a week kind of job means Sunday nights feel very different than they used to ❀

I'm posting so much more in stories these days. I just can't get my sleep deprived thoughts together long enough to write a post. πŸ™„ I can't get a good photo (of anything other than my gorgeous child πŸ˜‰) and everything is always on the run. My baby girl demands all of me right now and that's ok! It's what these {fleeting} moments are about right now. 😍 Oh how I love her and all that she is. What a wild and wonderful journey we are on together! ❀#motherhood #firstborn #newmom

This is my 38. Not my most flattering photo because those don't currently exist 🀣. Today is my birthday and this year that is extra messy hair, dark circles and bags, new wrinkles and postpartum "freckles", a new body I'm just getting to know, baby spit up and breast milk leakage on my shirt, Evie hanging off to my nipple all day and night, a disaster of a household. It's also cupcakes and coffee with my mom, sweetness from my hubby, friends and family and my happy baby's chatter all day long. It's a mess and also a whole lotta love. It was a good day. It's going to be a good year. β€πŸ™πŸΌ

The fridge is pretty empty (because yesterday Evie wasn't well πŸ˜“ so all errands went out the window and today was spent on other fun family things πŸ€—πŸŽ‰ ). Also time/ two hand availability was very limited πŸ˜³πŸ‘ΆπŸ». -

Good taste, nice texture, Vegan/Gf, all the right macros (including 25P + 10fibre), some solid micros, could have more greens/veggies but overall not bad. πŸ™ŒπŸΌπŸ˜…

Red lentil pasta tossed with, evoo, sea salt, roasted almonds, pumpkin seeds and walnuts and topped with raw hemphearts and radish micro sprouts ❀🌱

The sweet pumpkin is 5 months old tomorrow! 5 months already! Heart explosion. ❀❀❀ I love this tiny but mighty little monkey πŸ’πŸ’ͺ🏼 -
She's rolling, doing superman pose and grabbing for everything. She shimmies across the floor on her back and will jump up and down in your lap all day if you let her. Her smile is enormous and contagious. She got this funny silent laugh going on 🀣. She has laughed out loud a couple of times and lets out a few giggles now and then but not consistent and I'm dying for them!! Baby laugh, best ever sound or what!? -
This kid is so freakin active, busy and curious it's wild. She's happiest when we are out and about and she loves her stroller walks and content in her car seat as long as we are moving and the Ants Go Marching song is on repeat if needed 😜 (Thankfully she's over her awful crying in the car.) She watches everything like a hawk. Non stop mover too, seriously. πŸ›πŸ˜³ She speaks her mind and has a very particular impatient grunt with accompanying arm movements 🀣. She also loves to be naked! Wonder where she got all that from πŸ€”πŸ˜œπŸ‘« -
She's very interested in what I'm eating or drinking. She can drink water from a cup if I hold it for her but not quite ready for food yet. Soon enough though! πŸ™ŒπŸΌβ€She's working on a tooth too. πŸ˜“

- What a wild ride this mama gig is 😍😍 -

Oh and we've dropped the second v in her nick name spelling. It's now Evie (said like E.V) short for Evangeline.

This simplest made meals are coming back to me these days. I used to cook like this all the time when I was just learning and living on my own in the big world 😜. I moved out at 18 and I remember calling my mom often for her help and instructions on how to make something. "How do I cook this pork roast mom?" Or something like that 🀣

Now it's necessity (desperation? 😬). I want to eat well, on a super tight (and unpredictable) timeline and a mat leave kinda budget. πŸ‘ΆπŸ»πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈI'll be introducing foods to Evie soon enough too so simpler the better at this point really.
I posted about this meal in my stories tonight. All I did was cube two chicken breasts and sautΓ©ed in a little avocado oil (olive oil would be ok too), removed from the pan when browned and just about done and added two heads of broccoli florets, two garlic cloves sliced and a handful of almonds. Sprinkled with a bit of sea salt and a splash of coconut aminos (soy sauce alternative) which could have been left out but did add some extra flavour. Add the chicken back into the pan and cooked it until the broccoli was tender but still a bit crunchy. I like it like that best! I had it with left over quinoa. Easy, full of protein, carbs and good fats. Plus getting that broccoli in, loads of benefits from that lovely green πŸ˜‹It was quick. Probably 10min start to finish with my baby sous chef helping πŸ‘ΆπŸ»πŸ’•πŸ‘ŒπŸΌπŸ™ŒπŸΌ totally tasty and I've got leftovers for lunch too πŸ‘πŸΌOh and I've you are tracking macros, just measure it all out first and divide by servings. 😁

I hit my pre-pregnancy weight today. πŸ™ŒπŸΌThat's about 37lbs lost! I'm 37 pounds lighter than my body was in March although still lots of recovering to do before it feels "normal" again. Lots of postpartum aches and pains that I'm working on when I can, as I can. I think I was surprised about feeling this way after giving birth. Especially because I trained throughout my pregnancy and looked after my pelvic floor etc. I think I expected to feel "fine" πŸ™„πŸ˜³ at the 6 week post point but it is what it is. My body went through A LOT! Training is slowly picking up as recovery goes on and that's how I'll tighten things up and build back strength, curves and shape πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ’ͺ🏼πŸ’ͺ🏼πŸ’ͺπŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌEverything is improving and in the meantime no personal pressure or emotion attached. Lots of self love and respect instead πŸ’•. One thing we can do to feel great is eat well! For me, right now that means delicious nourishing (and quick!) foods as well as a sprinkle of treats. I'm not restricting anything (other than cows milk and gluten because intolerant/celiac). I'm mostly eating intuitively. Loosely tracking so I hit my protein goals and balance the rest with quality fats and carbs making sure to get a good amount of fibre.
A few basic guidelines I like to follow in general.
1. Eat when I'm hungry, stop when I'm full (not stuffed. Get used to feeling like 80% full)
2. Eat meals rather than snacks. Aim for 30g or so of protein at each meal and a balance of carbs and fats
3. Get in about 25g fibre every day
4. Drink water. Lots. I aim for 4L a day.
5. Enjoy your food choices. This doesn't mean be a glutton it means choose food you like that are in line with your goal.
6. Don't over restrict food choices. I'm not a huge fan of cutting things out entirely. I'd rather see good habits developed around those things. If you want something have it in moderation. You'll likely find the desire to over eat whatever it is that you want so badly disappears in time.
Dinner tonight was the wild salmon from @trulocal. It's so good ❀ Here's a coupon code you can use when ordering 8Y7WFJXC2RK9
