FIDELITY HIGH  The people you dig. The records they love.

Marlon Williams is a New Zealand based singer-songwriter whose 2015 eponymous debut garnered two New Zealand Music Awards as well as an ARIA Award Nomination (Australia's equivalent to the Grammy). His latest album, "Make Way For Love," was produced by Fidelity High favorite Noah Georgeson (Joanna Newsom, Devendra Banhart, Little Joy) and issued by the Dead Oceans label. A classic breakup record, the album was inspired by his parting with longtime girlfriend, the acclaimed singer-songwriter Aldous Harding (who also appears on the stunning duet, "Nobody Gets What They Want Anymore"). Mojo Magazine called the record "a raw and acutely personal document" while Q Magazine stated, "Make Way For Love is a brooding and soulful offering from an artist keen to burst expectations." Marlon has shared stages with Bruce Springsteen, Band of Horses, and Iron & Wine, has appeared at the Newport Folk Festival & Austin City Limits, and is currently on tour throughout the end of the year. This is Marlon Williams' Fidelity High: Chet Baker // Chet Baker Sings // Pacific Jazz Records // 1954. Marlon says, "Chet Baker sings how he plays and plays how he sings, maaaan. Its true tho. If Disney ever made a film with a talking trumpet, Chet would be their guy. I remember first hearing this record in high school and it taking me a good few seconds to realise that he’d lowered the mouthpiece and was actually delivering words. And what words they are. 'I make a date for golf and you can bet your life it rains. I try to throw a party and the guy upstairs complains. I guess I’ll go through life just catching colds and missing trains, everything happens to me.' The self-deprecating melodramatic humour in those old jazz standards is just so funny and weirdly moving. I tried to buy into that in a song on my new record with lines like 'I feel about as lucky as a snowman in the spring,' just from a desire to be a part of that magical world. This is delicious music for wallowers."

Josh Rouse is a critically acclaimed, Nashville based singer songwriter. His 2003 album entitled "1972" received high praise with AllMusic stating "If you say you've heard a better adult pop record this year, you are lying," while Uncut Magazine in the UK said, "It's all done with such obvious love and affection and literate craft that Rouse has gone and made one of the albums of the year. Even if the year is 1972." Absolute Punk called his 2013 album "The Happiness Waltz" "...the very reason why musical history should have a small chapter for this criminally overlooked songwriter." This year, Rouse released his twelfth studio album, "Love In The Modern Age," via Yep Roc Records. While his previous albums have primarily been guitar based affairs, the new record was written largely on synthesizer and is inspired by 1980s production found on efforts by The Style Council, The Blue Nile, Leonard Cohen, and Prefab Sprout. Paste Magazine called it "...intoxicating in an un-bummed-out Beck's 'Sea Change' sort of way," while Forbes said "This is a masterful storyteller celebrating the nostalgia of his youth with his own feel." This week, Josh launches a tour in support of "Love In The Modern Age," beginning tomorrow in the U.K. See all dates at www.joshrouse.com.(Continued...)

Miranda Winters is the front woman and guitarist of the Chicago based band Melkbelly. After a handful of singles and the release of the "Pennsylvania" EP, the band issued their debut full length "Nothing Valley" in 2017 to critical acclaim. The record was the first release from Wax Nine, a subsidiary of Carpark Records headed by Sadie Dupuis of Speedy Ortiz (and features "Cawthra," easily one of the raddest songs of last year). Melkbelly were named a "Band To Watch" by Stereogum and an "Artist of the Month" by Consequence of Sound who described "Nothing Valley" as "an album equally comfortable in lingering tones as it is toothy screams, classic hooks, and decimated noise." The Chicago Reader described them as a cross between the Breeders and Lightning Bolt and stated "Front woman and guitarist Miranda Winters sings with flair, her vocals veering from sweet and coy to sinister and fierce - and onstage she sounds positively battle ready, her unhinged caterwaul blending in a strange sort of harmony with Melkbelly's erratic, forceful racket." In recent months, they have completed support tours with The Breeders, Bully, and Protomartyr and just wrapped up a Spring European tour. They will also appear at the Pitchfork Music Festival this Summer on July 20th. This is Miranda Winters' Fidelity High: Talking Heads // Little Creatures // Sire Records // 1985. Miranda says, "When we were little high school punks, growing up in Providence, we used to eat pizza, smoke and listen to cassettes in this hidden bit of the RISD campus after school. (Continued...)

Luther Russell is a Los Angeles based multi-instrumentalist and one-half of the acclaimed duo Those Pretty Wrongs alongside Big Star founding member Jody Stephens. From 1989 through 1996, he was the frontman of the band The Freewheelers, who were signed to Geffen/DGC Recordings & Rick Rubin's American Recordings. He is a frequent collaborator of Robyn Hitchcock's and also co-wrote two songs ('L.A. Girlz' & 'Endless Bummer') featured on Weezer's eponymous 2016 Grammy-nominated album (commonly referred to as 'The White Album'). Luther recently released the two-disc retrospective "Selective Memories: An Anthology," which features music from his three-decade career, including material from his pre-The Freewheelers outfit The Bootheels (which featured a pre-Wallflowers Jakob Dylan and Tobi Miller as members). Billboard Magazine called it "an illuminating two-disc compendium that has plenty of surprises." "Selective Memories: An Anthology" is available via the Spanish label Hanky Panky, as well as a limited edition double cassette issued by Burger Records. The anthology also features liner notes written by veteran music journalist Bud Scoppa and Larry Crane, editor of Tape Op Magazine & owner of Jackpot! Recording Studio.
