Today’s #mondaymotivation is related to my most recent blog post. As part of ‘The Vicious Cycle of Infertility’ I focus on the feeling of being ‘The Only One’ when actually you are “One of Many’. *
All we see are everyone else’s perfect lives on social media, not knowing what really goes on behind closed doors. That’s because we don’t tend to talk about the difficult things. Outsiders would have looked at Matt and I and thought we were lucky, we married in June 2015 and were pregnant in October 2015. Quick and easy it would seem. They didn’t see the POF diagnosis, the 5 IVF cycles, the pain and the loss. The same goes with the recent Royal pregnancy announcements, it all seems so very easy. It adds to that feeling of isolation, that you’re the only one that isn’t able follow this perfect fairytale of how life is ‘supposed’ to be.
So, what advice do I give to those feeling alone? Where can they gain strength in knowing that they aren’t ‘The Only One’ and are actually ‘One of Many’?
My first suggestion is to join you guys! Since launching @definingmum and becoming part of this Instagram community I’ve seen how you all gain strength from each other, knowing that you are not alone. I see how you have come together in a shared understanding of the rollercoaster that is infertility.
My second suggestion is to download some useful fertility podcasts. It’s such an easy thing to do – on your way to work, at the gym or whilst you’re doing the household chores. The ‘TTC Life Raft’ by @thisisalicerose and ‘Let’s Talk Fertility’ by @mrs_izzyjudd are both fantastic podcasts that will make you realise that you’re not the only one. I wished I had been able to listen to these when I was dealing with my infertility, I am sure that by hearing other stories it would have made me feel more confident to share my own.
My third recommendation to those feeling alone is to check out @fertilitynetworkuk who have some fantastic resources and a list of support groups that run throughout the UK. I am actually looking to start a group local to me around the East Midlands in the New Year, so if you are interested then please get in touch!
