(Photo: On Sunday dozens of fishermen in the town of San Felipe painted Sea Shepherd on an empty fishing boat and burned it in front of 100's of people) #BreakingNews POACHERS THREATEN TO BURN SEA SHEPHERD SHIPS IN THE SEA OF CORTEZ.
Sea Shepherd has just been given a violent ultimatum. Poachers have demanded that Sea Shepherd ships leave the Sea of Cortez and abandon the Vaquita OR they will burn our ships.
In the face of this threat we must stand our ground for the endangered Vaquita. We cannot retreat from the violent threats of criminals. These poachers are illegally setting nets for the Totoaba fish and in the process killing the vaquita and hundreds of other animals including sharks, dolphins, whales and sea-lions.
Sea Shepherd crews on the SAM SIMON and the FARLEY MOWAT are locating illegal activities with drones and confiscating illegally set gill nets and cutting animals out of these nets, most dead but some still alive.
These are not honest fishermen making these threats. These are violent poachers intent upon the destruction of anything that stands in the way of their illicit profiteering. The bladders of the Totoaba fish fetch $20K a kilo in China and this price tag has attracted thugs with backgrounds in smuggling drugs.
Sea Shepherd has requested security backup from the police and from the Mexican Navy. #opmilagro #seashepherd #antipoaching #nocompromise #poachers #directaction #oceanconservation
