Autumn means comfort food, and comfort food means slow cooking BUT slow cooking doesn't necessarily mean meat. This dish is by far the best thing to ever happen to aubergines! The trick is to treat them like a good cut of meat - take the time to massage the flesh in the marinade then cook low and slow for incredibly tender 'meat' that soaks up those wonderful punchy garlic, chilli and ginger flavours (full recipe through link in bio).⠀

What's your go to slow cooking recipe when the weather get's colder and the nights darker?⠀

Supper just got wild! Foraged fare is making a comeback, and for good reason - it's delicious, nutritious and grows all around us. Who better to show us how to cook wild foods than chef, food writer and foraging fanatic @rosiefoodie. Try her seaweed cured pollock with elderflower beurre blanc & sea vegetables and you'll see what all the fuss is about (recipe through link in our bio). ⠀

Would you take on the #buzzbuttonchallenge??? These funny little flower buds may look cute, but take a bite out of the centre of a @thesevernproject.cic ’buzz button’ and you’ll be in for a surprise! They start with a sweet and sour flavour but after a few seconds your whole mouth will explode with a tingling numbness that’s very hard to describe.
We took to the streets to see if the Bristol public could handle the challenge. And here are some of the reactions 😂. Check out our story for more!
Do you think you could handle the #buzzbuttonchallenge?

If autumn did salads 🍂😍 This warm caramelised fennel & squash salad is the reason why you should be cooking with spelt (recipe through link in bio).⠀

"I feel like chicken tonight, like ethical chicken tonight" ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Fried chicken shops have become a mainstay of London’s culture. But the pressure high street joints are under to provide cheap food at high speed means their meat is usually sourced from battery farms and fried from frozen.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Thankfully, there a new breed of fried chicken outlets opening up in the capital that are putting chicken welfare at the top of their priority list.⠀⠀

The key to delicious egg dishes is great quality eggs 🥚🍳! So for #WorldEggDay, here are some facts to help you buy the best eggs and make the right choice for you and for the welfare of the chickens that laid them:⠀

FREE RANGE: free range hens do have unlimited daytime access and at least 4 square meters of outside space per bird BUT there is no limit on flock size and both beak trimming and use of antibiotics are commonly practiced⠀

ORGANIC: unlike free range, organic farms are certified by the @soilassociation who ensure access to pasture isn't restricted and organic bird feed is always GM-free⠀

CAGED: in 2010, cramped battery cages were prohibited in EU. But modified cages, also called ‘enriched’, ‘furnished’ or ‘colony’ cages, remain legal, and animal welfare experts agree that these new cages are not a great deal better.⠀

CAGE-FREE: a cage-free egg is one that has been produced in accordance with the welfare methods set out for free-range eggs or organic eggs. ⠀

In an eggshell, ones from an organic farm or a free-range farm you can trust (read more through link in our bio).

A juicy double cheeseburger recipe. The beef is from cattle fed a 100% grass diet. For most people, a beef-eating environmentalist is a contradiction, but is this type of grazed farming part of the strategy for mitigating climate change? The question we're trying to answer is: can eating cheeseburgers reverse climate change? Read our post through the link in our bio.⠀

2,200 apple varieties are grown in the UK, supermarkets sell just 5-6. Without eating a different apple a day for 19 years, we've put together a guide of the best of British apple season (read through link in bio). ⠀

Don't know if you knew, but this week is #NationalCurryWeek. Yes, we know, perfect timing for a wonderfully comforting bowl of meat, slow cooked in a well spiced sauced! But did you know that curry was anglicised from the Tamil word 'kari'. which means 'sauce'. Not strictly a curry, our creamy sweet potato & tomato dhal ticks all the boxes flavour-wise and is the perfect way to enjoy curry week (recipe through link in bio).⠀
